If you guys are deciding to buy an IEM, please don’t blind buy. Find one that caters to your tastes. The general cheap ones you can play around with to find your preferred sound signatures are: CCA CRA’s: V shaped signature, top end is boosted and bottom end (bass) is boosted. Moondrop Chus: neutral bass boost signature, neutral overall with a bass boost so the bottom end is risen. And Salnotes Zero: neutral with a top end boost.

They are good for listening to music, but can’t be used for performance. There’s too much latency in Bluetooth audio and not enough range to use something like that onstage. I do think we’ll get to that point someday where you don’t need a wireless body pack to be on stage with in ears, but I don’t know if I want a radio transmitter/receiver that close to my head lol.

What I hate most about wireless is LATENCY. And of course charging them. And they are very expensive. You can buy IEM like 50 bucks that would sound thousand times better than your 200+ bucks wireless earbuds.

I’m actually going to do a video about this! Here’s the short version: The earphones/in ear monitors are plugged into a wireless pack the performer is wearing. That pack receives an audio signal (a mix) that comes from a mixing board at the side of the stage. There is an engineer controlling that mixing board and send the performer what they want to hear. This would be their own voice, instruments, backing tracks, metronomes, and also (sometimes) spoken guides or directions. Because the earphones act like ear plugs also, microphones facing the audience are used so performers can hear the clapping/cheering. I hope that helps and make sure to subscribe to see my video about it in the future!

So important for singing on massive stages or in open spaces with huge crowds. When Mariah Carey said that she really couldn't hear herself & she was so unsure as to what was happening in FREEZING Times Square filled with thousands of screaming people/loud music many years ago....no one believed or understood her except for other singers (E.g. Pink). It's not easy to improvise in such a space (very different from an auditorium or something - I.e. a closed setting). People acted like she didn't know what she was doing. Like let's stop acting like MC and her talents aren't legendary. iish happens! She's the most misunderstood celeb I've ever seen...

How do you get custom molded ear pieces to add to your IEMs??? And how expensive are they??? Can I do it to my Arias???
@TomButwin
2 жыл бұрын
For the custom molded type, you have to go to an audiologist who will take molds of your ears/inner ear. I think the cheapest custom molded IEMs would run somewhere between $500-$800 USD. As far as the Arias go, I don't think anyone makes custom molded attachments for those. Some Shure universal IEMs can be fitted for custom molds. The 64 Audio a2Es are a great entry earphone and so are the JH Audio JH7s.

Hi Tom, i've bought my very first in-ear monitor. So i have android that have dolby atmos effect in the audio. For me to hear the music as it really sound like when they were recording (close to this), So is it with turn on my dolby atmos, or otherwise? (Pure without enhancer) I don't know what the dolby atmos effect or other effect do with the audio specifically. Please tell me
@TomButwin
Жыл бұрын
Hi Fajar, Dolby Atmos is a really interesting new way to deliver audio. For movies and music recorded specifically for Dolby Atmos, they utilize many channels of audio to simulate "3D" listening. When it comes to headphones/in ear monitors, we are limited to two channels (Left ear and Right Ear). So, what your Dolby Atmos-enabled device does is use an algorithm to translate those many channels down to two channels. Sometimes, this is paired with head movement tracking (i.e. Spatial Audio from Apple on AirPods). When it comes to listening to recorded music, most is still recorded in standard stereo (left and right) and mixed for that. However, Dolby Atmos is becoming more popular and being incorporated more often. It can make you feel like you're in a room listening to the music, as opposed to just listening through speakers and headphones. As far as In Ear Monitors, they are generally geared toward musicians on stage and in the studio who listen either in mono or stereo. Someday, Dolby Atmos-type technology may be used to make IEM listening more realistic, in my opinion. So, if you have an audio source recorded for Atmos and a device that is Atmos enabled, you will be able to hear that special mix with normal headphones or In Ear Monitors. I hope this helps!
@arthuriski
Жыл бұрын
@@TomButwin okay, so dolby atmos makes listener feel spatial hearing experience by putting all those channel into two channel, and maximize the experience as if we hear many channel. But dolby atmos doesn't beautify the sound. It keeps the sound as it was (realistic) but it more visualize the dimensions of the sound. So i feel like if i want to listen to music in any platform i used to enable the dolby atmos. But if i want to hear my project (monitor), I disable it. Thanks tom your explanation is enlighting me to become an audiophile. Its really help and insightful Keep this stuff up man.

Can i use it for daily basis, as we use the actual earphone? Ex: on my smartphone watching video, calls, playing music, game, etc. ?
@TomButwin
Жыл бұрын
Yes! I use mine to listen to music/videos all the time. However, they won’t work for calls, as most don’t have built in mics. Options to add that do exist, though. One other note: IEMs isolate you and block almost all other sounds. So, I recommend being careful wearing them in environments where you may need to hear your surroundings. Shure makes great universal earphones with Bluetooth/mic options.

Are they custom molded or the universal type? If you don’t have a good seal in the ear canal, you have to turn them up way louder than you’d think. It can also cause general pain if they don’t fit correctly. When they are sealed the right way, the volume can remain relatively low and still have impact.

@shirakuyanai4095

More drivers means there is more separation between frequencies, thus more detail but the improvement is very subtle and more often than not you won't be able to tell the difference when there are more than 3 drivers per ear so too many drivers is usually just a waste of money unless you really need that subtle improvement And yes, a few good and powerful drivers is always better than a bunch of useless ones My pair of ciem has 6 drivers (1 DD and 5 BA) per ear and most of the sound comes from only the DD and 1 other BA that I put in to replace another useless driver. Other than those ones the others are pretty much decoration

Completely ignorant statement for a few reason, I will illuminate a. couple. 1. IEMs vary in sound signature as much as cars do in look and functionality. They may all take you from point a to point b…but do it in VASTLY different ways. No they do not all sound the same and are not all “flat” 2. There have been multiple thesis and research papers on what constitutes “flat”. Purely flat sound as in all audible frequencies being the same in overall volume? tends to be ideal. Or at least an ideal working platform. an iem that is actually truly “flat” all the way across the audible spectrum implying low distortion? sounds incredible. It is ideal for mixing and mastering and thus for playback implying the sound engineer mixed and mastered on a flat device as well
