This video features one of the most beautiful French compositions of the late 1930s.... "Dans mon coeur" (lit. "In my heart") was an composed by Paul Misraki for Danielle Darrieux who sang it in the movie "Retour à l'aube" (Return at dawn). The style is that of an "Hungarian melody".
Misraki (1908-98) was not only a composer but also pianist and singer who was part of the Ray Ventura Orchestra. One of his most famous compositions is "Tout va très bien, madame la marquise" - a delicious "sketch song" which was on verybody's lips in 1934. Other compositions include : "Chez moi"", "Sur deux notes", "Qu'est-ce qu'on attend pour être heureux?", "Une charade" (another Darrieux song), "Insensiblement"...
After the France's defeat Paul Misraki - who was jewish - fled to South America and eventually to the USA where he worked in the movie industry. After the war he returned to France and resumed his career.... He composed the music for Vadim's "Et Dieu créa la femme" ("And God created woman") which starred Brigitte Bardot.

The version presented in this video was recorded by Adalbert Lutter and his orchestra in 1940 (!). In my opinion it is a very beautiful, melancholic version.... Lutter recorded so many sides for Telefunken that he is often overlooked yet some of his records are truly excellent.
"Dans mon coeur" was recorded by a number of French singers and was a big hit for Lucienne Delyle - her version can be heard on KZitem in the Parlophonman Channel.
The version by Danielle Darrieux can be found in the Camille885 Channel. The movie sequence is also available on KZitem.
The video features sheet music and images of Danielle Darrieux as well as sequence from "Katia" (1938).
