Truly I do love and even miss hearing my former church (Faith Chapel COGIC in San Diego, CA) sing this song. They would melodiously sing this song during every Communion service.

Racism will be here until Jesus comes. I understand, but you just had to ruin it. We were supposed to be remembering what our Christ did, not the racism that is so hurtful. When Jesus walked the earth, many turned their backs on him because he did not wipe out the oppression that was present.

Actually I was member of this choir for nearly 10 years, sang this song virtually every time we took Communion, and I'm not African American. While I bristle at the "white supremacy" charge, the point is well taken. Despite the "white Jesus" imagery that dominates Western Christian iconography, Jesus was most decidedly not fair-skinned and European. My error was focusing on the dramatic impact of the images rather than their racial authenticity (since we are seriously lacking images of Jesus that accurately depict his ethnicity). I apologize for my insensitivity. It was not intentional, and I sincerely regret it now that it's come to my attention. I will give prayerful consideration to pulling the video to avoid further offense.
