Masterpiece. Mark improvisations here are so gorgeous and subtile. Sublime music.

Fantastic lyricism in every song on this side of the album. Mark was a journalist and English teacher before a full time musician - maybe part of the foundation for his great songwriting ability.

Communique would be my next DS album recommendation, the songs feel like the last 3 songs on this album, it's their purist album as a whole for my taste. It's my second favorite, this debut being my favorite. I feel like if you do Brothers In Arms next you'll hear many songs you've heard before, it's their biggest album success. You can't go wrong with any album you pick next though.

In The Gallery is a great song lyrically as well as musically . I had heard Sultans of Swing and liked it but In The Gallery made me buy the album as soon as I heard it.I think this is one of their top songs despite all the attention Sultans of Swing gets.

In The Gallery, Wild West End and Waterline are my favorites on this album. I think these songs are the most autobiographical to Mark so I think that's why they pack the most emotion. Amazing!

Mark has just released a charity single for the Teenage Cancer Trust in the UK and Teen Cancer America. It's called Going Home and is an instrumental track that Mark recorded for the film Local Hero in 1983. On it are over 50 of the finest musicians on the planet and it is totally mesmerising ...

The groove, the biting message, the energy, the chops in that solo!! Best song on the album in my opinion

I didn’t like it at first but it won me over.

Dire Straits is like another dose of Dylan and Reed to different amazing music to me, plus Mark's different vocal stylings of course are great. Their deep cuts and minor singles suit my taste more than their big hits.

@@alphajava761 great band and songs. I didn’t know why they never really clicked with me in a bigger way. I’m enjoying this album however

@@Hartlor_Tayley I get that. There's some amazing bands who don't resonate with me.
