Bought this for my friend for his birthday, and he loves it. Father-in-law was a little jealous, even. :) Built solid, but light enough to move around for projects. Easy to use kzitem.infoUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe and makes great precision cuts. Doesn't come with a laser mount, but the fence is straight as an arrow and if you measure carefully, it's not a problem. Can handle dimensional lumber with ease, but of course, there's a limit to how thick. Handled a 4x4" post without a problem, but 4x6" we had to flip and cut twice. Only thing we've noticed is make sure to tighten the nut that holds the saw blade when you take it out of the box and maybe check up on it occasionally. For some, this is probably a no-brainer, but we neglected to do this and a few months in, found the motor running but the blade spinning at about half speed or less. Tightened the nut, and problem was solved. Very happy with this purchase. Dewalt makes sturdy stuff.

Thanks for the review, Ben. You'll want to close up the gap between the drop panel and blade by moving the miter bar over one set of holes and making the second cut described in the manual. The zero clearance will give you a cleaner finish on the offcuts, but it also keeps narrow offcuts from getting pulled down into the gap… that might be okay if the saw has an open throat plate that lets narrow pieces get pulled through, but if the saw has a zero clearance insert, there's potential for narrow offcuts to get jammed between the blade and panel and kicked back toward the operator.

What is the point of the left side of the sled? It's not connected to anything. A main reason for using a sled is that it rides in both slots for stability. Am I missing something here?
@donf3739

They call it a drop panel. It doesn't actually need to move; it just needs to be right against the blade to prevent tear-out. He was supposed to attach the runner to it farther away and trim it again, right next to the blade.

I don't like that type of miter track because it can't ever be pulled forward so far that it partially comes out of the miter slot. If it does, the little plastic wheels that touch the sides don't touch and it isn't accurate any more until the miter is all the way back in so all the plastic wheels are in contact. It's probably fine on the large cabinet saws but I got rid of mine and switched to a contractors saw with a smaller top surface.

One thing I like about it is you can clamp the piece down to the sled while cutting. That will keep the part from slipping and jamming against the blade when you're cutting a steep taper.

Thanks very much for this excellent video. You did a great job showing the assembly. I am curious about the use of the sled with a dado stack. I anticipated you using the piece you cut off with the dado blades. Have you tried it yet? Are there any problems after you use it with a dado stack, then returning to standard kerf cuts?

If you own a sawstop be careful with this and the incra miter gauge as the blade deflection can trigger the brake. I don't own the sled but do the miter gauge and simply moved the fence over a 1/2" and just need to remember about that half inch when using the measurement.

Are you following the instructions? You might want to read the assembly instructions. You have some errors there in your setup that probably make the sled more cumbersome.

@@MyersWoodshop Not the original poster, but I just went through the same setup tonight. The few places where I noticed your setup isn't the same as the instructions: - The utility plate has 6 mounting holes for the panels. You're currently using the four furthest from you to connect the panels, but the instructions specify using the middle 4 instead. I can see how this would be confusing from figure 4A, but if you take a closer look at the other images, they all show using the middle 4 holes. - The "drop panel" is meant to be a zero clearance insert. Take a look at step 7, "cut off drop panel overhang". You're meant to use the holes that have some, but the least amount, of positive overlap. For my SawStop, this was the middle holes. Once you cut the panel, you'll have zero clearance on both sides. - The "drop panel" is meant to be locked in place while actually making cuts. It's not supposed to slide. See step 1 in the operation section: you're supposed to tighten the expansion mechanisms until it's locked.

@@nat_was_here ok good I wasn’t the only one to see this. I own this sled too. Doesn’t he have the miter fence and gauge on the wrong side of the sled too. On mine (and I double checked with other videos on KZitem) the gold aluminum pieces protrude in front of the sled not behind it.

@donf3739

I've made some sleds that way. It doesn't need to be attached for it to work. It just needs to rest against the other side of the blade to prevent tear-out. Its runner is actually supposed to be attached far enough away so it can be re-cut so that it's right next to the blade.

Does Incra include torque specs for the hardware? Seems like impacting it down is less than optimal if the goal is perfection.

I wouldn't use it with a dado, I would take the miter off and either make a separate sled or use the miter separately with the fence. If you use the dado you lose the zero clearance of the platform

Thanks for the video! I have a Dewalt DWE7491RS table saw that I want to use this on, but people tell me the Dewalt’s miter slots are notoriously oversized (mine are between .0764”-.0768”) and that the Incra miter bars only adjust up to .762”. Do you think adding some UMHW tape to the bars would solve the issue? I know they come in thicknesses of down to 3 mil and up to 20 mil, so I was wondering if I could make up the difference with that. Just wondering if it would be more effective and easier to add the tape to the miter bar or the slot itself. Thoughts?
@chuckgrumble5440

I am going to try with 5mil tape, hopefully it works or its going back. I will just make something like miter express with tracks and everything. I am almost done building a collapsible outfeed table that hooks onto the 7491rs, i just got to route some miter slots in it. I am also going to try a removable infeed on one side also.

I'm kind of confused on the utility of this product. You already have the miter gauge and fence. It seems like you are just increasing the table height with these panels for no useful purpose. What am I missing? Does it allow the miter gauge to start past the table edge for larger boards?
@cheek1m0nkey

Google for crosscut sled, which is effectively what this is. You can do much more with a sled, angle cuts, etc. You can clamp down your piece. It's a bit safer, especially with larger pieces. I'm sure others can list all the other benefits.
@organize1979

Using a sled under your work increases stability and accuracy when running it in a crosscut position through the blade. It eliminates the friction element between the piece and the top of the table saw, which is safer and more accurate.
@BlisterBang
Жыл бұрын
I have to agree. This is really half a sled. With a full crosscut sled the left and right halves are permanently attached together. This eliminates table friction of the board being cut. There are lots of KZitem videos for building crosscut sleds. Most seem to put a lot of effort into making the miter slides, but Incra makes aluminum ones to eliminate the humidity variation of wooden slides (tightening and loosening with changes in shop humidity) while also providing built in fine-tuning calibration capability. I liked mine so much I bought a set for my son.

Lol I think these products are for starter sets for people who don’t have the time or the money to make a really good one. 3x3 customs made one of the best sled but look at the tools involved having to make it. Got to have a router, bits to make the T track, cost of the wood is pretty expensive right now. Birch and melamine plywood right now is like $72-$98 per sheet and project wood of these species are going as high up as $34-$54 at Home Depot/lowes. Star knobs is about $10 for 5, hold down clamp is about $17, then the price of the T track is $23-36 for the cheap off brand to the kreg version… materials will cost you up to $200 lol… the sled is like $179 at Rockler…. Got to think objectively
