My Granny had a sink on the back porch. When it was mealtime, she'd holler outside to come in and 'warsh' up, that it was time to eat. That's where we'd wash up before coming in the house to eat. I look back now, and figure that was better than us all trying to get in the bathroom and trashing it! 😊

I couldn't help but notice when you showed the old light bulb hanging from the ceiling that there was an adapter so you could also use the ceiling outlet for electric appliances and such. That was very common in the house I grew up in and of course my neighbor's houses. It was also a sign that you couldn't afford to have more electric run inside the rooms. So the adapter was a quick fix. I can remember seeing ironing boards under the lights and the irons plugged into the adapter.

My understanding is that those adopters were popular in the early 1900s. Reason being in the early days, electric companies offered two rates. One low rate for electric lighting and a much higher rate for electric appliances. That rate structure went out the window when people started buying the adopters so they could use their appliances at the lower rate. That and as the utility companies increased their generating capacity, they didn't care what people used the electricity for. At that point they wanted their customers to use as much electricity as possible.

The foundation must still be in tact mostly. The roofing is a beautiful red but could use a good red metal roof. Love the bigness of all of it. Would strip the paint off the trim, crown molding, the doors, and the wainscoting, and hopefully see a medium brown wood through out, put some new plumbing but keeping the old style, new electric, central heating and air conditioning through out. Deck it with redone antique chandeliers, and wall lights, Weather trim all over, beautiful area rugs and some worthy beautiful draperies, and beautiful antique furniture.for starters. The kitchen made farm style, antique cupboards. Nice big fridge and a grand old upright rinkytink piano, and harp and other instruments. And a large pet room that has an adjacent pet pen enclosure,Why not have it all?! Beautiful place, and with redone fire places. Are we ready? Thanks Kappy for the stroll into this beautiful old house👍🦇🕸🕷🦗🦟🐿🐭Put them in an out building Ha! And add a few pets.❤

You found a GEM with this one. I was surprised that there wasn't more furniture ect inside. The 2 pieces of furniture together looked like an old radio, and the one in front is called a credenza. I have one almost the same as this one. They would have it sitting in the dining room with their China on it for fancy holidays ect. That bathroom downstairs looked like my tiny little bathroom. Just put a tub on the far side and that's how big mine is. My Mr, when we moved here said it was the perfect set up for someone with the flu. 😮 It's the truth too! 😊 Keep them coming Mr Kappy! Have you noticed in your explorations that the houses with metal roofs have less water damage? Seems like that was a good plan for vintage homes. I really loved this house.

interesting find. I once read in a realtor's description of an old house that was equipped with working sinks in every bedroom, that the house was originally built as an old hotel. Made me think of that, seeing this old house with a sink plumbed into every room as well as the back enclosed veranda. Two front doors? Apartments, maybe? and the assortment of crutches and canes was notable, suggesting old folks or invalids? Then the piano adorned with so much music... church music with titles and the page notations. Apparently, the purpose of old 'plantation' house was changed to fit the folks that occupied it in later years, though, still, long ago, from back when folks gathered around the piano for entertainment and spiritual nourishment. Images that conjure up so much possible history or, at least, stories from another time. Thanks for the journey, Kappy. Thanks for the memories.
