Some people don't get it, the chair isn't simulating the actual movement of the carseat, but rather the g-forces produced by accelerating, steering and braking.

Peter Delacour This is not random shaking, the platfrom tilts according to the simulation and makes you feel the earth gravity as vehicle acceleration with the help of the mounted screen tricking your eyes to believe you are not tilting against earth. Of course, the maximum force you will experience will be limited to 1G. In a real car, you can experience more of it.

Actually no, it wouldn't - as it didn't. This was a prototype for a Kickstarter that not only didn't sell but didn't raise enough funding to get started. While it looks rather cool it moves around *way* too fast. If you use any of the very high end systems the movements are rather subtle as that's all that is needed to trick your brain. I have one of the smaller systems and it retails for $3500 - not many are going to spend that much for a video game. That said even my small one with VR is amazing, especially a virtual roller coaster!

This chair, while looking impractical from a third person perspective, is actually likely incredibly immersive from the perspective of the driver. It simulates G-force properly and thus makes you feel like you are driving a real car. Just like how when you are driving up a hill, there is no visual change directly in front of you. The amount of stupidity and lack of basic knowledge of physics in this comment section is astounding. Faith in humanity eliminated.

When you drive into a 1G left hand turn, you will be pressed into the right side of your seat. 1G would feel pretty much the same as if you were suspended in air with your right side down. Pretend sitting in this with it completely enclosed. You don't know your facing straight up, you only know your back is being pressed in the seat by the force of the weight of your body.... or 1G. 1000 BHP and 1000 pounds of torque would glue your ass to the chair depending on the cars setup. With good breaks you can stop nearly as fast as you accelerated which would throw your ass to the steering wheel. Now factor turning when pushing a car to its limit. It's one hell of a rush to say the least but very dangerous. For your average factory car this chair is overkill. For most high performance cars it would be far worse than sitting in that gaming chair.

I dont remember the word, it's probably inertia. it's when your body tries to maintain the position that it was in before it started moving. When you stand in a bus and it starts going you dont fall forward and when it stops you dont fall backwards. Same here if you turn left your body will lean right from the inertia (or whatever that word is). And since this is a game and you aren't really driving the chair tries to imitate the feeling of your body being pulled in the opposite direction than you're going.

@aneng64
11 жыл бұрын
It's to do with trying to create the G-forces associated with the acceleration, deceleration and cornering. The same principle is used in big full-motion flight sims. You can't push someone back in a chair when they accelerate, so you tilt the chair back and keep the image straight (i.e. relative to the eye) - the brain feels the body being pushed into the chair but the eyes say you're not tilting up (the road stays flat), so the brain is fooled into feeling it as acceleration.

I like how you ask a question and then immediately shut off your mind and dismiss it as useless. The movement is using gravity to help simulate the effects of g-force. You're looking at the chair dip forward under braking, and you're assuming that it's simulating the suspension compressing. It isn't. What its' simulating is the g-force you'd be experiencing when braking. Notice how the monitor is fixed to the chair? It moves when the chair moves so it will give you the illusion of g-forces.
