I was on an Air Canada A320 landing Calgary with crosswinds. It felt like we were coming down a boulder strewn mountain on a sled sideways. Half the passengers were screaming, some silent, and quite a few laughing believe it or not. Nervous laughs for sure. When I got off I poked my head into the flight deck and thanked the pilots. The Captain smiled and said, "Yeah, I was just thanking someone too"

Some of these landings are good, some of these are lucky. Some are awful with passengers puking in the back. I flew for Kimball International. Non of the pilots could fly a crosswind. They started way below glide path because they thought it made a shorter landing.Beyond being ILLEGAL, it was un-safe and dragged out the flair. These guys were clueless and their low approaches caused the flair to float and float fighting the crosswinds! Between texting and flying in the traffic pattern, lucky these guy's didn't kill anyone!!!! If they scratch the paint, I will be lead witness in the prosecution!

Actually no. Cross wind you need to keep the upwind wing low. I would like to see more of the after touchdown. You are working the rudder one direction to keep her aligned with the center of the runway kick it straight then hold the rudder the opposite direction you were holding it for flight. (Wind acting opposite on the tail when on the ground)

I'd like to know what the heck the airport builders were thinking when they failed to grade the land they were building the runway on so that it was FLAT. That has to make it harder to land safely especially in a cross wind. I'm curious why they were even landing here. Didn't they carry enough fuel to make it to a safer airport? If I was piloting my own aircraft I'd never use more than half my fuel to get to either my destination or to a intermediate refueling stop. I'm chicken. There's old pilots and bold pilots but not very many old bold pilots. I flew from LAX to Oxnard, about 65 miles because I was in a hurry and didn't want to go rent a car, and it was a 10 passenger puddle jumper like the Tee tailed planes in several of these shots but much smaller and we went up along the ocean side of the coastal range and I swear we spent more time going sideways than we did straight forwards. The curtain between the passengers and the cockpit was open and I watched the pilots who were quite busy. IMO they earned their money on that trip. I used to fly model airplanes a lot and always enjoyed the challenge of crosswind takeoffs and landings. The levee at my back and the vortex it formed over our runway made it extra special challenging. Got my plane up about 25 feet and it would roll 90 degrees away from the line it was on and so I'd use that as my turn around point. Great fun, but I was safely on the ground.
