Something that has always fascinated me about today's video games (console/pc/etc) is how they've evolved over the decades to have more intense soundtracks. Cutscenes and stuff have a ways to go but many of these games now have deep story lines and the music to match. We thought upgrading from beeps and boops on the pc speaker to midi and SoundBlaster in the 90's was amazing. Look at us now! (I LOVE The Normandy theme) Great job on this video! 👍

Aw, cheers man. And if Advent Children is anything to go by, the pre-2000's games had awesome soundtracks as well. I think the only difference is soundtracks that are meant to go with story-focused cutscenes. Like, the difference between a soundtrack behind gameplay like this Infiltration soundtrack from the Collector Base in ME2 (kzitem.info/news/bejne/qHhryn-XpqqlfGk). At around 1:10 of this soundtrack is where the cutscene kicks in and this music is allowed to be paced similarly to how it would in a movie. You can follow the story just off the music without seeing the scene. You have the desperation and urgency as both teams try to hold off the Collectors, with the danger increasing as your engineer struggles to close the door and the second team come over to help yours out and you get this impression that every member of the team is covering the others' back. Then you can hear the part of the soundtrack where the threat it over. Then you have around 2:30 onwards of the track which is the basic combat music for the gameplay. As games have gotten more story focused, soundtracks have become more "focused" in order to create specific emotions in specific moments. Then you have examples like Halo, where the soundtrack doesn't go with a cutscene, but it loops in such a way that allows it to play throughout the gameplay and not feel like it's looping, like One Final Effort or something like that

So … it is that easy to break into an advanced alien network with just a program virus ! 😂😂😂
@TOONYBOY
7 ай бұрын
Actually, that part is kind of plausible. Their technology would be so much different than ours that their antivirus security wouldn't recognize our programs as threats or viruses. Have you ever heard of a Zero-Day attack? In real life, whenever new computer viruses are made (which is every day) there's a small window of time where our everyday security has no idea what it is until the virus is already in a position to do something dangerous. That's why your security is regularly updated. These updates contain new rules for the Antivirus to work against to spot and delete the new viruses. The part of this scene that's actually impossible is that because our technology would be so different to theirs, whatever commands David (Jeff Goldblum) gives the program to kill the shields or do whatever else wouldn't recognize the alien technology. The general idea here is that if the program was told to "kill Shield subsystem A" or something like that, the program wouldn't know what that is in the alien code, because the alien technology would be made in a completely different language, but also that how they interface with that technology could be very different from how we do. Now, because they have the functional alien spaceship with working shields at Area 51, it's not IMPOSSIBLE for David to tinker with it, learn the alien code and DESIGN himself a program that can interface with it and kill the shields, but that is WAY too enormous a technological skill for not only a cable repairman to have, but also for him to have developed it so easily overnight that we skip straight to the next scene. You'd have to make a montage scene of him working with the other scientists at Area 51 to learn the alien language and code and actually making that program. Then you could have this scene

@TOONYBOY
7 ай бұрын
That was a thought I had that might have been the case when making it, but thinking about it, I am actually interested in what you think is ruined about the scene by this music? I'd say that the tone of the music actually fits relatively well with the context of the scene. By comparison to the Will Smith Chase edit I did, I "ruined" that scene because the tone of the scene when edited was vastly different from the tone of the scene in the actual film. In this scene, I'd say the tone of the scene is actually similar in both the movie and the edit. To clarify, by putting Mass Effect music in the Will Smith Canyon Chase and the President's Speech scenes, I've essentially taken them out of Independence Day and made them into Mass Effect scenes. In this case however, how has the scene been ruined?
@isbri89
7 ай бұрын
@TOONYBOY Let me rephrase my comment. It doesn't ruin the scene. It just to loud. I can't hear the acual movie scene. This scene is one of my favorite scenes. This is the first video I've seen in the channel.
@TOONYBOY
7 ай бұрын
@@isbri89 Oh, that's absolutely fair, I agree with that. I know the lines, so I'm mostly able to "hear" it, but especially at 4:11 you can hear the audio cut quite harshly, and the fighter audio from the pilots a minute or so earlier were relatively quiet. The problem I had there was trying to keep the music from the actual original scene inaudible, because the point of the edit was to try the scene with different music. Also, although this video has become the most viewed, commented AND liked (no video of mine has even breached 10 likes aside from a Short), this absolutely is not reflective of what I make. This and the two other similar Independence day edits I made were purely "hypothetical" tests I made as a fan of Mass Effect and this film. My normal content is literally just Let's Plays. I don't do YTPs or anything and I don't plan on making stuff like this a regular thing. I wasn't even originally intent on uploading this and the other scenes. @@nigelsookram882 Really? How? At what point would you say the music takes away from the action? What part of the action is being ruined by the music? The point I'm making is that the entire intention is for the music to add to the emotional impact of the action throughout the scene. I say "add to" as if that wasn't there in the original, but it'd be more accurate to say that it's trying a different tone. The original is mostly upbeat and relatively hopeful, whereas this soundtrack is going for a more "Brothers in arms" tone. They are absolutely different scenes, and I don't want people to think of this scene in the context of Independence Day, because if you were to take my edit and splice it into the actual film, for obvious reasons it absolutely wouldn't work
