If you are brand new to stocks and investments, I would recommend you start by watching some of my previous videos. I've put together a whole playlist where you can see everything you need to know to get started investing in stocks: • AKTIER OG INVESTERING 📈
But what is best about maximizing one's return and minimizing one's tax payment Is it investment funds or ETFs?
I can already reveal now that there is not one definitive answer to that. One is not, by definition, better than the other. It depends on a number of variables in relation to you and your situation, but if you watch the video you will subsequently be able to pinpoint exactly what will be best for you.
1. What are mutual funds and ETFs?
Today, we are based on Danish, dividend payers who are taxed on real estate (“investment funds”) and which are the “biggest contrast to the foreign, accumulating, ETFs that are taxed on stocks. In addition, I also base investments on a equity deposit (and therefore not a pension or savings account that has other tax rules) and ETFs on SKAT's list that are taxed as equity income, and not capital income. In addition, I also base passive funds (or index funds) over the asset-managed (which you know is what I go for because of lower costs and because I would rather follow the market rather than trying to beat it).
2. Differences and Points of Attention
- Taxes: The investment funds are taxed on real estate, which means you only pay taxes when you sell. This can be an advantage since you do not have to find money elsewhere to pay taxes every year, and you can therefore have a higher interest rate effect by deferring your tax. Sure, you pay taxes on dividends, but depending on the size of the dividends, there will also be larger or smaller exchange rate gains that you can decide for yourself when you want to sell out.
All ETFs, on the other hand, are tax-exempt, which means you pay taxes every year, regardless of whether you sold or not. The disadvantage is that you cannot control when you want to pay the tax yourself and therefore you have to find money for tax every year - however, if you have had a loss, on the other hand you get a deduction, even if you have not sold, but you do not have the same control over the tax payments.
- Cost (APR): The investment funds typically have an APR of between 0.4 and 2% depending on whether they are passive (computer controlled) or active (professional people sitting and trading back and forth).
The ETFs typically have very low costs between 0.01% to 0.5% in my experience.
What can best pay off? Here you will have to watch the video to see my review .. :-)
The conclusion is that, as I said, it depends on your situation and especially time horizon, but what you need to be aware of and which has a big effect is:
The cost (OPP) of the fund
tax Optimization
Meeen… In fact, the OPP has also just been reduced to several mutual funds, perhaps precisely because there are a primary competing factors in relation to the ETFs. This is probably not the last time this kind of thing has happened and in addition, the tax rules for share gains can also be changed, just as we have seen, for example, with both the positive list for ETFs and the new share savings account. Therefore, when selecting funds for my own portfolio, I primarily look at:
1. What is this for a fund, what companies it contains in which geographies and industries
2. What is OPP
3. How much is paid in dividends
As you can see that one is not better than the other, it depends on you and your situation!
