I asked my father how much a Brahmin used to take to conduct vedic rituals in 50's or 60's , my father told me everyone was poor and Brahmin used to take 1.25 rs to conduct Puja .. same was the case of Potter and same was the case of lohar .. everyone was same only works were divided or maybe I come from himachal that is not very cast centric society like up or bihar .. but that thing was thought provoking for me ..

The caste system as it exists today is thought to be the result of developments during the rise of the British colonial government in India. The British Raj furthered this development, making rigid caste organisation a central mechanism of administration. By 1860 the British formulated the caste system into their system of governance, granting administrative jobs and senior appointments only to Christians and people belonging to certain castes.

@@poornimadubey3028 Its not confusing at all if you pay enough attention. Abhijit has already uploaded separate videos explaining the Eklavya matter. As for Manu Smriti, it is among the most seminal of texts among what are collectively called the Dharma Shastras, which were the very basis of paramount future treatises by the likes of Vishnugupt Chanakya (Kautilya) in the north and Thiruvalluvar (author of Thirukkural) in the south. Just because Colonial Indology did a systematic propaganda campaign against Manu Shastra (the same was later propagated by "eminent" Marxists in the academia, and has today become the gospel truth via repetition) by inserting mischievous interpolations and mistranslations, it doesn't make the original samhita what they keep claiming it to be.

First Mughal invasion was in 1526. British invasion started in 1608. These invaders took advantage of the caste system, caste discrimination and unt*uchability. Unt*uchability and caste discrimination were already in practice since very long time back. Sri Ramanujacharya brought a movement as he revolted against the discrimination of unt*uchability and helped the people who were considered as untouchables. Sri Ramanujacharya belonged to 11th century. A Chinese Traveller named Fahien wrote about unt*uchability. The practise of unt*uchability had begun during the Gupta period. The Chinese traveller Fahien mentions that 'Chandalas' were separated from society. The advancement of Brahmanism led to the neglect of Buddhism and Jainism. Gupta period was in 3rd century.

If you see the history of southern Indian , different kingdoms were established from people who were practicing diffrent occupations . Origins of western Gangas, Rastrakutas, Hoysalas, Keladi Nayakas, Chitradurga Nayakas etc. Great Vijayanagar kingdom itself was founded by cow herders, but later the when the inscriptions were translated they were told as Yadava ( Lord Krishna's) lineage. I see it was purely done for political purposes. Another intresting fact is Jainism existed along with Hinduism when the great kingdoms flourished. And the society was less divided atleast in terms of hereditary occupations.

So you are saying that the oppression on Dalits began after britishers came to India and before that Brahmins and other upper caste individuals lived in harmony with the lower caste people And what about Manusmriti ? PS. This is just a question to clear my doubts don't take it in a wrong way.

the word 'Caste' is just an English coinage to the same Jaatis and Varnas... did discrimination exist in early India? well if you say no, then please look into history, and do and don't and restrictions for certain communities... why was only one community the sole caretaker of the graveyard or be responsible to clean after a higher varna person eats. or just answer a simple question as to why did Eklavya have to sacrifice his thumb or Karna was not considered as the eldest of the 5 brothers.

I can bet casteism would have gone by now in 2023 if reservation was not happen in this country and everyone was equally treated. But in order to give some groups opportunity to grow quickly they have played with fire. Now majority of general category ppl hate them for taking their opportunities in various field. Also because of reservation ppl will always remember the caste, because whenever someone says sc st reservation comes to mind.

This generation terms it as nepotism....... Now even if the varna system was based on virtue what makes you think that once a man attained brahmacharya he would give same opportunity to a sudra child to compete with his own son???? Or a vaishya business man would allow brahmins to take their hegemony of business and work.. Or even kshtriyas would willingly want some sudra to compete with the prince for the throne. On the contrary when a powerful barber like Mahapadmananda (first emperor of nanda dynasty) battles the kshtriyas to rhe throne the brahmins cooks up some ceremony for him to get him converted

1) Caste is a Liberian word. Portuguese introduced caste system to differentiate between extreme Christians, jews, islam followers. 2) Extreme Christians always considered themselves as pure blood and superior to Jews and Islam followers. 3) Varna is a sanskrit word derived from 'vr' which means to choose, cover or classify. 4) In bhagavat gita, it is clearly written that Varna is based on occupation not on birth. 5) When Portuguese arrived in India, they were confused by the Varna system. So for their own convenience, they started it considering as caste system. 6) Thereafter Christian missionaries used it as way of exploitation and to divide people.#refer MADRAS CHRISTIAN INSTRUCTOR and MISSIONARY RECORD Vol. 1,2 june-dec. 1843-44#

Originally its VARNA system and 4 varnas are NOT based on birth: Bhagavad Gita 4.13: The group of the four Varnas/castes: Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra, has been formed based on the division of Guna(qualities) and Karma (actions). The vedic original Varna if any where mentioned like Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra its based on Guna(qualities) and Karma (actions) only but NOT based on birth. But some greedy people hided the truth and started following wrongly using birth.

Namaste sir... Main Sociology ki student hu aur caste homlogo ka yeh ek aspect hai indian society ko study karne ka. Kya aap mujhain Manusmriti ke baare bata sakte hai kyuki humlogo ne padha hai ki Manusmriti main women and low caste ke logo ke liye bohot bura likha gaya hai aur bohot kuch kya woh sab sach main likha gaya hai ya britishers ka yeh ek chal thi. Kyuki abhi bhi Indian main caste based discrimination hote hai nd sabhi log Manusmriti ke niyam hi batate hai agar India main Varna system tha toh Caste kaha se aya. Caste based occupation kaha se aya.. Brahminical patriarchy kaha se aee. Brahmin superior kese ho gaee... Inequality kaha se aaa gaya... Kyuki Mahabharata main bhi caste system dekhne ko mila tha Draupadi ne Karn se saadi karne ke liye mana kar diya tha kyuki woh ek sudra putra tha aur bohot kuch... Kya hai iska sach agar hamare scriptures hamein batate hai ki sab main bhagwan hai toh fir yeh caste based discrimination nd post vedic, medieval, modern nd post modern era main abhi bhi inequality kyu hota hai religion ke naam pe. I hope ki aap mere iss sawal ka answer denge

Reading from google:- CASTE is a form of social stratification characterised by endogamy, hereditary transmission of a style of life which often includes an occupation , etc. It is wrong to say that the “CASTE SYSTEM” is a western invention, as in my understanding VARNA is pretty synonymous with the definition of caste. You may argue however that CASTEISM and many of the so called “EVILS” of our caste system may indeed be a BRITISH invention.

Every single evil of the society has been attributed to the 100+ years of colonial period. If caste system was started by the British then how did they propagate this system across all of India, 600 thousand villages? Did they write the rules of engagement of various castes? There are villages where still do not know who the brits would have been, why do they have caste system? From the religious texts these evangelists should be able to prove that caste system is foreign to Indian culture and religion and those who claim to be upper castes should give up their air of superiority and accept the lower castes as equals in all respects. Similarly those who are from lower castes should be able to confidently say they are equals and be allowed to do religious rites like anyone of the priestly class.

Thank you sooooooo much Abhijit ji for pointing this out again!! I’m so sick of ppl blaming Santana Dharma’s teachings itself saying “jati & varna are all over the Shastras”, “go get your head checked if you think Hinduism doesn’t have a caste system”, “living in denial doesn’t solve problems”!! They’re always attacking, accusing, denying the truth, dismissing anything I say about caste being a western construct or that it’s completely different from & unrelated to jati/varna or that our society got colonised hence internalised colonising concepts hence it exists in society today & has since the west fuc*ed us over or even pointing out the very book you showed!! I’m sooo sick of us and our knowledge systems being treated condescendingly & in the same colonial fashion as always by ppl who claim to be Hindus & Indians!!! I’ve just had it with them!! Since you’re so popular and unlike in my case, ppl actually believe you know these things so thank you for using your platform to tell the truth and spread it!!
