It's very neat being from KC and actually saying to myself, "Hey! I know where that is!" lol. Also nice to get a local review.

Well done. I just got back into riding a month ago and picked up a Honda Shadow RS 750 for starters, but already looking to trade her in on a Scout. Beautiful bike and seems to get great reviews from just about everyone. The suspension seems to be a common issue. Nice "teaching moment" when that car merged into your lane... even when you think you're visible always expect the worst when a cager starts to move over and give them space. Excellent riding attitude.

You'll Love it. I took the stock slip ons off my wife's just to see what it sounded like and if there would be any power increase. I found it to be way to loud, but it was a blast to hooligan around on. I felt a slight increase in power, as evidenced by the ease in which I could break the rear tire loose. One thing I didn't notice until I put the stock slip ons back on, was how much heat the bike was putting off with them on. I didn't notice the heat reduction with them off, but what isn't there maybe you don't notice. The first day with them back on I noticed the heat again. I would recommend getting a free flowing exhaust for your Scout.

Oh and I have some Vance and Hines bookmarked that I'll be getting before summer that are going to sound REALLY nice. Thanks again for the video man!

At the end you say "probably didn't rev it out completely..." you were not even close, red line as actually 8,200. I've watched a ton Scout reviews and no one gets above 5k. It's a shame because it's a whole different bike, that's where it makes its power. Absolutely screams from 5k to 8k+.

I'm loving your videos and I like the way you do your reviews. I was kinda sold on the Scout for a city bike but after this I don't think it's for me. I'm a top heavy chick so if it's kinda hurting your back then it'll probably be killer on mine. I guess I'll have to choose between Chieftain and Springfield.

Nice video! You said your back started to hurt thanks to the sitting position. Was it because you had to reach for the handles or the opposite? How tall are you?
@capOlllllOable
8 жыл бұрын
I'm 5'8". It wasn't a reach to the bars. I Think it was a combination of the forward controls and being to far back. I could have used a slight adjustment forward with the handlebars. I currently own the Scout and Chieftain. My back hurts on both. I think it's just time for a back rest. Sport bikes were easier on my back (go figure).

Thanks Alex! I use the GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition. IMO I believe it to be a great value camera. My wife recently bought the Scout, and I can say that the bike has plenty of power and is great in the city for its nimbleness. I think it rides great on the highway, although at extended periods over 60 mph it's taxing, and would recommend a windscreen.

Thanks for the info on the camera - the high def video looks pretty spectacular on my iPad! I'm working to get my 1994 Suzuki GS500 back in service after being stored for 10 years in my garage. I'm hoping to get back on the street once I deal with tank rust and a carb cleaning. I hear you on the windshield. I added one to my GS500 and it really cuts down on wind fatigue. But after checking your Scout Sixty review, I may have to put a down payment on one next year. It's all gonna depend on whether I can make riding a regular activity now that the kids are out of college. Whats your daily ride? Do you have a Scout as well?

This is kindof a strange bike for me. It's definitely a nice bike and I would love to own one for around town, but it almost seems like they had that 100hp target and sacrificed some low-end torque to hit that 100 number. IMO, a V-twin should be all about torque and low RPM "lazy" power, which the Scout has...but it just seems like it could've been a bit better had they not been focusing so much on hitting that 100HP mark.

People don't set their side mirrors correctly. We're all taught to adjust the mirrors inward until you can barely see the side of your car. WRONG! You already have a rearview mirror. Use it. To properly adjust your side mirrors: Move your head until it touches the window and THEN adjust the mirror until you can barely see the side of your car. For the right hand mirror move your head to the centerline of the car, THEN adjust the mirror until you can barely see the side of your car. Result: Your side mirrors do their job, which is to show you the blind spot. When you have them adjusted correctly an overtaking vehicle in the next lane is visible first in your rearview mirror. Then, just as it disappears, it appears in the side mirror. And just as it disappears from that it appears in your peripheral vision. 360 degree situational awareness at all times without moving your head. Some cars do this better than others, but in most cases it works great. Once you get used to it you'll NEVER accidentally encroach on someone's lane again. Try it!

@capOlllllOable
7 жыл бұрын
As gear ratios vary from different models of motorcycle the "seat" feel in my opinion is important. The Scouts 5th gear ratio is 4.380, the Chieftain 3.243, and for instance my Honda CBR954RR 5.256. These numbers equate very differently at the same speed on each motorcycle because of the ratio and power output at varying RPM. So the Scout at 60 MPH may have slightly better pick-up than the Chieftain, because the scout is making greater power/weight. Now the Scout and Chieftain would probably walk away from the 954 at 60 MPH in 5th gear, until the 954 had time to increase RPM and power output. Thanks for your inquisitive comment you certainly allowed us all to think a little deeper today. Keep up that grand curiosity of yours.

Noel, I couldn't have agreed with you more from a quick demo. Having lived with my wife's scout for a few months my mind has changed. I don't think I would trade my Chieftain for it, but it's a hoot around town. Super quick, and when I ride it I remove the slip-ons and let the headers make music. Thanks for stopping by!

Sorry man, I didn’t realize anyone watched this crap content anymore. Here’s a little 5 year update. Transmission leaves a lot to be desired. There is a finite amount of wiggle room in adjustment before your 1st-2nd shift is difficult to shift or you’re slipping clutches. Front end suspension is pretty bad. Doesn’t absorb bumps at any speed well and is lacking in dampening. The lean angle is non-existent, unless you put on reduced reach foot controls, then you’re cramped for room. You can easily outrun the headlight at night. Aside from those things, it runs like a bat out of hell. Take the exhaust off and rev it 8k every gear and enjoy the bliss that is what sounds like an F-1 inspired V-twin. When you shift into third at 100mph you’ll wish you had a windscreen or a seat that actually held you in place. Better get to work with your thigh master. RIDE ON BROTHER!
