@@iKvetch558 - This all derives from soldiers and aircraft techs in Vietnam making their own 'modifications' to C-47 cargo planes. Jets called in for ground support came and went far too quickly, and the troops on the ground needed air support that could stay on station for hours. These modified cargo planes became known amongst the troops as "Puff the Magic Dragon". They evolved into one of the most devastating ground support systems ever devised. When the top brass realized how effective this strategy was, they started a new program to develop the models we have today.

The interesting part is that the latest version of the AC-130 has fewer guns than almost all previous models. The Air Force has finally phased out the 40mm Bofors cannon from the AC-130 series, and the current model has only the 105mm howitzer and a 30mm chain gun similar to that found on IFVs like the Bradley. To give the plane even greater precision strike and standoff capability, the newest AC-130 model can carry missiles like the Hellfire, and precision guided Small Diameter Bombs, as well as other precision guided munitions. ✌

Americans, despite what many foreigners believe, do not go looking for a war. But, we do not shy away from helping those who need help. India is an up and coming power, and is NOT any enemy of the U.S. But, tensions are high on some issues due to the Indian/Russian past relationship. We have no reason, or need, at present, to have any conflict with India. And we all hope it stays that way.
