This isn't old, it's only from the early 1990s, it was just filmed in black and white to mock the old public info broadcasts from the 60s.

@@alpine_newt The gold standard was a monetary system where the value of the pound (£ UK) was connected to the value of gold. I don't know the ins and outs but eventually this connection became untenable for commercial reasons.

What is so clever about this sketch is that the right who believe feminism is out of control generally feel that leaving the gold standard was when the the world lost the plot..The first to do so was the Soviet Union which simply printed money without building its gold reserves proportionately and thus had uncontrolled inflation..After the war the West did the same so the welfare state ballooned and debt and inflation have rocketed ever since..The implication is women tend to be irresponsible with money since they are not innately providers..A Darwinist view I agree with..

But as a counterargument you can raise the fact that your currency is now Fiat which means it has no actual value and so will open to market and inflationary pressures

Actually you are missing the deeper meaning which got past the BBC censors..Leaving the gold standard and resorting to money printing and debt firstly brought down the Soviet Union and has created massive inflationary problems everywhere else..The implication is things were better when women knew their limits and that society is becoming overly feminised so less fiscally responsible since women are not naturally providers,but consumers...Hence Farage and Enfield who wrote the script being best of buddies..

Some people get the wrong idea. This is satire. It is showing how ridiculous men's attitudes used to be (and some still are). The joke is therefore on the dinosaur men not the modern woman. The give away is the "gold standard" which dates back to the 1930's, so this is modern spoof of how attitudes used to be and not any sort of information film. Nobody who understands this would be offended - men or women.

No it's actually saying the opposite..The first to leave the Gold Standard was the Soviet Union which collapsed due to debt and hyper inflation..The rest of the world is heading in the same direction..When you had silver and gold coins you couldn't money print your incompetance on to future generations..It's the kind of wishful thinking that is feminine in nature..More concerned with consuming than providing..

Couldn't be shown today? Of course it could, it's just as funny now. Harry Enfield is a giant of comedy. I think you meant that people don't have these old-fashioned attitudes these days. Which of course is what makes this spoof funny. Women still like kittens though😀

What is the point with cutting the lower part of the video so all expressions get lost? If the copyright holder make a claim, just let them have copyright for something that nobody remember, don't feed them.

Namaste darlings. One thing I must say, men are not meant to understand women, my friend. That would be like finally getting a book that you've sought for years, a revered " whodunnit", then turning to the last page to reveal all. Women are the joy that keeps us going in life, and the eternal mystery that must remain. Of course I'm a romantic, but I mean it. I loved your reactions, and I always smile when your lady finds something that tickles her in the video, because her eyes twinkle and she gives herself over completely to what she is watching. We guys really never do that. Always a pleasure watching you two. I wish you rainbows.

Whenever I see Indian roads it looks as if there are no laws about driving at all (similar to Lisbon, Portugal, never been as scared in my life during that taxi journey) 😂. But here's an interesting fact: insurance for women is lower (or used to be before they passed an anti-discrimination law) than it is for men. Women have fewer crashes. That's testosterone for you. Anyway you should check out more Harry Enfield.

Women drove less miles than men leading to less accidents. When you consider accidents per mile driven men were the safer drivers.
@shelleyphilcox4743

@@radman8321Men more likely to cause death by dangerous driving and drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 30% of men admit to driving over 100mph and 9% of women. Men 3x more likely to breech speed limits. In 2019 data showed that while men drive more miles 7013 v 5998 for women, women did more individual trips at 990 vs 915 for men. Even though men drive 17% more miles, they drive 8% less frequently in number of trips. What the stats still clearly show however is that men have proportionally more accidents than women even accounting for the difference in annual miles driven. Men lead 4 to 1 on traffic violations at 79% of all types of violation from speeding to no insurance and driving under the influence. Men make twice as many insurance claims and 50% more 'at fault' claims. I love data, stats...facts.
