Can't help but feel grateful to shannon for using her platform to talk about communities who deserve to have their voices amplified. It's vulnerable to have these conversations but a great learning experience. Thank you Devery for sharing your experience with us. ❤❤❤

I’ve never thought about not having queer history… WOW, that’s so true and that’s so sad. We need to talk to more older lesbians and queer folks! Document that shit ✍️

I took an indigenous culture course when studying at Syracuse. While I learned a lot (primarily about the tribes in the Haudenosaunee), it also taught me to better appreciate what has survived from pre-Christian Ireland. Like a Goddess who is now viewed as a Saint. I'm wondering what Devery thinks of the representation in some of the Canadian TV shows like Sullivan's Crossing and Trickster.

I don’t have a platform by Anymeans but my wife and I would love to be on this podcast! We have been together 11yrs, married 5, and have been through the wringer!!! And you were one of the first lesbian KZitemrs I’ve found and I introduced you to my now wife as well! So would be cool to be full circle moment. Pipe dream though lol.

The all-girls schooling experience Devery mentioned was so real for me too, I didn't even realize I was bisexual until I was living with my male ex for the first time because that kind of intimacy and touch had been part of all my female friendships/roommate relationships. They weren't sexual, but I feel like the line is way blurrier for women between homoromantic and homoerotic feelings because we're expected to be more in touch with our emotions.

I watched this last week, but forgot to comment (I always watch on my tv, then comment later on the computer if I have one, LOL). This episode was so good! Devery seems like cool people. I REALLY enjoyed the conversation you had. One central theme I have found every time you talk to people is that the only experience they had with queerness was gay men, and didn't know you could be a lesbian woman, or a bisexual woman. I am in the same boat. It was so beyond the realm of possibility because I NEVER saw it growing up. That's wild to think about. Had I seen it, I would have known, "hey, you're okay to be attracted to girls too." Who knows what life would have been like if I'd seen myself. Oh, well...no dwelling on the past. Regarding Devery's recommendations: I had heard of the Watermelon Woman, but haven't seen it. After watching this, I added it to my "to be watched" list. Also, yes, "In the Dream House" is an INTENSE read, but SO creatively done to describe a relationship. Check it out if you can!
