On Monday, June 17, École Corinthia Park School enjoyed a morning of Indigenous People's activities. Students had an opportunity to take part in many traditional Indigenous, Inuit and Metis games, hear stories and learn about their traditions.
“This day is important for reconciliation,” said Mme Robichaud, who put together the day's events. "The first step toward reconciliation is to learn about the people who were historically wronged. By learning throughout the month of June; through their stories, their games and activities, we can touch the children and get them to connect on a personal level.”
Throughout the morning students made totem poles and sharing sticks, cooked bannock and created digital art. They also learned about the Seven Sacred Teachings of the First Nations.
If you would like to learn more about Indigenous cultures and storytelling you can listen to music from Indigenous artists, attend a show, watch a movie, or pick up a book written by an Indigenous author. Let’s all continue our journey of learning, listening, and amplifying Indigenous voices and stories.
