Indigenous Lacrosse - Honoring the CREATORS Game at Ontario Science Centre
The Haudenosaunee Lacrosse Program is a unique opportunity to experience the rich history and culture of the Indigenous peoples of North America. The program takes visitors on a journey through the traditions and practices of lacrosse, as well as its importance in the lives of Haudenosauneepeople. Through interactive exhibits and activities at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto, visitors will gain an understanding of the game’s role in the Haudenosaunee culture.
The video begins with a introduction from Kevin Sandy, the Director of the Haudenosaunee Lacrosse Program, where visitors can learn about the history of lacrosse through interactive activities shooting area with both traditional, and contemporary lacrosse sticks. Visitors will then have an opportunity to participate in hands-on demonstrations and make their own traditional Lacrosse ball using deer hide and sinew.
Dawn Maracle, of HOPES Indigenous Training Network shared the teachings of the double ball and stick game, and lead the hand-on workshop creating traditional lacrosse balls!
