The Canadian provincial ministries of education have decided that indigenous perspectives must be taken into account in all school subjects, including in GFL lessons.
The Goethe-Institut therefore brings indigenous storytelling units into the classroom and organizes workshops with teachers in which materials and implementation options are presented and discussed.
In collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Toronto, Cat Criger has conducted various storytelling sessions for all age groups, using traditional objects to convey cultural concepts and traditions. He has told traditional indigenous stories to the youngest or shared stories from his own life as an indigenous Canadian (with some German and English ancestry), and of his work as a traditional teacher and knowledge keeper, which is always about passing on cultural and social values to the younger generation, about learning (for life) and about exchange and mutual understanding between cultures.
A Big shout-out and thanks to the team of Tetra Video Production for their great work!
