She is a gorgeous tank of an Indigo. I love your gentleness and how you handle her and speak with her.

endangered species. I seen one nearly as large in the wild. I was in the wildlife refuge area in ft Myers FL when I was younger. they look alot like a cobra, but you can tell by the shiny indigo color and the cataract eyes.

I'm originally from South Jersey, during late summer, I went out to check on one of my deer stands, a 6 ft long Indigo slithered across the trail in front of me.... it was cool. I touched his tail as he went by.

Herman Munster. Thanks for the info... years ago, a guy who I worked with, told me that they were Indigoes, I assumed that he knew what he was talking about. Live and learn, thanks.

Very cool vid. I live in Central Florida and we do have Indigo Snakes around here, although I have yet to see one. Most of what I see are racers and garter snakes. Considering how tame your snake is, that seems to confirm the notion that they actually are pretty docile snakes. And very beneficial to the ecosystem.

Haven’t seen one in years. Not to many left I suppose. They actually are fairly friendly snakes, but they can deliver a nasty bite when threatened. When I was a boy, we had one that lived in an old tree stump in our back yard. When her babies came, my Dad contacted fish and game. They came and took them away, and moved them to a more isolated area.

Endangered here in Texas, it is against the law to kill one and you if you are caught will be fined heavily. Reason is, they eat Rattlesnakes, thus making the HIGHLY beneficial to us here where we have more than our fair share of Rattlesnakes.

Some eastern indigos have red or orange on parts of their faces and on their throats. The tails are always solid black.

Many years ago when I was a kid my family and I went to Florida and saw about three of these in the week we were there. I loved catching snakes but none of us new what these were and my parents didn't let me catch it as we didn't know if they were venomous. Towards the end of the trip I was able to find out what they were with a reptile book I bought while in state, but after I found out we never saw another one. I wish I would have caught one of them so badly, such pretty snakes.

mynameiskranz They aren't aggressive toward humans at all I've read. Part of the reason why they're so sought after as pets and why wild ones are endangered.
