Indonesia Issues Tsunami Warning After Ruang Volcano Erupts Multiple Times | Firstpost Earth
Indonesian authorities ordered hundreds of villagers to evacuate due to multiple eruptions of Mount Ruang volcano in North Sulawesi province. The volcano, standing at 725 meters (2,400 feet), erupted at least five times since Tuesday night, sending lava and ash plumes high into the sky. The country's volcanology agency raised the alert level to the highest, advising people to stay at least 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) away from the peak. There are fears that Mount Ruang could collapse partially into the sea, potentially triggering a tsunami, as it did in 1871. At least 800 people in North Sulawesi province were evacuated from the area.
