If someone is interested in pursuing IO psychology then how should they start off at first? For example, should they start off by going into HR first and slowly working their way up? Or perhaps is there an even better alternate route?

Hi! It depends on what yo want to do, are you talking about going into IO psychology for academic research/clinical context, or talking about industry, meaning going corporate or startups etc.?

Informative Video! Thank you.. I am planning to do organizational psychology and i have a year's experience as a generalist in HR, But as an international student i am worried about placement in UK, in such a case which industry should i focus on or which industry has more employment opportunities?

Sorry the late reply, As for location, you might wanna check the general opportunities/vacancies in the uk to see what they require, Regarding which industry you should focus, honestly, its way more important that you just pick one you feel appealing and get as good as you possibly can. Because success patterns are the same, meaning people/companies only value you for what you excel at, if that’s XYZ in the end, is less crucial, because they wanna see you once managed to master something, and based on that they can easier leverage you. Generally the future tilts towards AI so some jobs that are repetitive can be replaced to some extent To have more opportunities it’s generally a good idea to aim climbing the ladder to senior positions that require more leadership and complexity instead of repetitiveness such as basic admin, payroll, etc. Hope this helps!

Is PhD obligatory for IO psychology ?? Which has more job opportunities and makes more money ( IO / HR ) ??
@bradyXTv

No, you can work in IO psychology positions without a phd, its not necessary. But its more opportunities with a phd, eg higher entry positions, going into research etc. HR is just a very broad term/field, meaning if you have a (IO) psychology background, you can always go into HR, if you are good and can sell yourself, then HR/psychology has many opportunities anyway. So its not an either or, its a „leverage psychology degree to get a nice HR position“ the most money highly depends on the type of company (startup/corporate, etc) and the position itself You could check some bigger companies and check the HR vacancies to see what they pay/require :)

Hi! Thanks for the comment, best way it to get the Master's in I/O fields, and for that, the Bachelor in Psychology is the way to go. If you have a college degree already, like a bachelors, then you may ask if you could get some of the ECTS points transferred/counted for your new bachelor in Psychology. Since catering is far away from I/O, a bachelors in Psych. would be good. Hope this helps! Best, Michael
