I was there, along with my Dad, an old AAA midget driver- at his first 500 since 1964 - and my two brothers. What a memorable race, and a great finish!

Very humble man and agreat racer! Ibrember once in an interview the interviewer made a comment or eluded to aj foyt helped make indy what it what it is, he politely corrected him and said I dint make indy great, indy made aj foyt! What a humble great racer! I Always called him the Bobby knight of auto racing!

Yeah he was beloved everywhere he went for a reason. He was actually worried about when he joined Nascar, cos he thought all the boys would hate him for being an outsider and rookie to stock cars. But in reality they were all in awe of him, he was a hero to them. And they immediately accepted him and he became one of the boys, once they learned how humble and genuine a person he is. He never had a problem just giving one of his cars to rival drivers if it meant they'd get to actually race that day. It's judr something you don't see, otherwise. Apart from the very odd rare occasion like Dale earnhardt Jr racing for half a race in a Hendrik car, months before he actually signed with them. But AJ Foyt has not only done that, he's done it multiple different times for different drivers in different races before. Because he just wants to see the drivers all get to race, and just find out who is the best. Even though they're rivals to himself to to his own drivers, he'd never not congratulate someone for winning. He's a true man, a king

i love A J! best driver of all time. i useta talk to him and his dad every time he raced or practiced at Ontario and Riverside. he was as nice as he could be. i think some peeps/reporters would piss him off by asking stupid questions so he got a rep as a gruff guy, but he is just a big teddy bear= just don't piss him off.

I miss that type of commentary in regards to racing...NASCAR broadcasting used to mention it...INDYCAR used to mention it...these are some things broadcasting and announcers need to remember to bring racing back...its not just going fast and turning left and right at some tracks but the balance of the car...its not just the racing but how drivers and teams balance it all out!!!! That is what makes a race sometimes!

Doesn't anybody have that segment they did right after Jim McKay says "One thing for sure.....He did it HIS way." and they start playing a video montage of Foyt's career up to that point with Sinatra singing "My Way"? Anyone remember that from the original broadcast?

This was before Teo Fabi and crew demonstrated a faster way around the track. Different driving and car setup favored the inside front tire while later setups worked all 4 more evenly.

Also after '82 CART banned the 'ground effects' technology that the teams developed for the cars. Probably as a result of the qualifying crash that killed Gordon Smiley.

Jackie Stewart, excuse me Sir, He is just an outstanding person. One of my bucket list would be to have a lunch session at Monza talking racing all the way from him in F-1 in 1967 at Spa, to his announcing career at The Daytona 500 in 1976, when Pearson got his car started back up and won, and Petty's car did not start. Well mannered man I had ever seen.

Big Foyt fan...but I have always felt that he should have retired around this time in his career. Somewhere between 1980-84. He kept showing up year after year at Indy with little or no chance to win. I always felt it tarnished his reputation a bit. Also had a terrible accident in Wisconsin in 1990 and crushed his feet real bad. Finally retired( driving Indy cars at least) in 1993 at age 58! About 10 years after he should have IMO.

I really disliked it when they pulled away from the race for some long winded explanation, no matter how precise.
