This was on at my work and when Takuma won I had to run into the back room to celebrate. I've been waiting for this moment for so long. Just epic, so happy for Takuma!

I have been rooting for Takuma and waiting since he came to IRL and though he should have won in 2012, it feels real special today. What a great race. Omedetou gozaimasu Takuma-san!!!!

MOST people WEREN'T cheering for Helio! We want the 4 time winner club to NOT include ANY driver with ANY of the 4 wins being "IRL 500 wins". FTG didn't care about history and tradition but MOST Indycar fans do!!!

Banzai Taku-san. Great performance today. Congrats to Sato, Andretti and Honda for providing some serious horsepower. In racing, you risk everything to achieve the ultimate goal. Honda pushed their engines to the max today and got to drink the milk and kiss the bricks.

Though his results didn't show it Sato has always been good at the Speedway. Prior to win he was remembered for his spin while battling with Dario in 2012 but in reality 2013 may have been his most impressive performance. He came home 13th or 14th but what nobody remembers was that he passed something like 17 cars after an earlier spin. Spin was his fault but it happened as he was going for it with a relatively uncompetitive car. Indycar insiders knew he was good there and when Andretti picked him up many knew he definitely had a deal where he could be put in position to win. Sato is a good guy and a helluva driver. Congrats to him as he earned it.

People are making a huge deal out of it because they relate Indy engines with the ones from F1 which are totally different engines,made and designed in different countries.

so happy Sato won. was pulling for both him and Alonso, and I knew Alonso was a looongshot (surprisingly not so much apparently), but I wasn't expecting Sato to pull this off. Multiple attempts at trying to pass throughout many laps all shut down, only for him to come through in the very final laps.

Really. F1-only fans are so damn clueless. Honda had the BEST engine. Honda WON the race. Sure, a few popped -- it's Indy; that happens when you push the power envelope. Would you rather your precious Alonso finished the race at the back of the pack with an under-powered but reliable engine? I'm sure Alonso much preferred losing an engine that could have won the race over losing an engine that was never going to get him into the top 10 anyway, like in F1.
@MW_1535

It's not just the 500. Honda has had engine problems all season. Fast(er) is fine, but it doesn't help a lot if it's not reliable. I'm very happy for Sato, but I think he was lucky regarding the engine.
I wanna see Sato cruise chicks at the Speedway Kroger like Bobby Unser used to!

He wants to know if overtaking is allowed in Indycar. In F1 you have to get a permission from FIA and race marshal every time you want to overtake, and then it can only be done if each car maintains 5 metre of clearance between each other.

z00h You hit the nail on the head. I luv all Motorsports. Great racing in Indycar, Nascar, Sports cars, le mans, MotoGp etc.....But in F1 the passing must be done with no contact or you're penalized, or its done in the pits which isn't racing. Then u get time penalties for whatever they deem an infraction after the race. wtf? I Iike F1 but the governing body sucks.
@Chris-bm5qd

Joey- I was just commenting on how uncommon it is to overtake in F1. Although today's race (F1 Canadian Grand Prix) had a fair amount of overtaking for an F1 race, Lewis Hamilton lead from start to finish, or to put it another way, he won the race without having to pass a single car. I'm an F1 fan, but so many of these races are sarcastically referred to as "track parades", as the cars circle around the track with a very small number of on track overtakes. Overtaking is often achieved based on pitting strategies.
