When I was 23 I made the wonderful decision to move an oak entertainment center by myself. Went around a corner in the hallway and had to lift one end to shift its position and felt a massive stabbing pain in my groin, worse than being kicked there. I thought it was just a groin pull and would subside after a few hours. Woke up the next morning and felt a dull throbbing pain, the idea of a hernia never entered my mind. The pain continued, on and off for the next six months until I went to see my Dr. for an unrelated issue and that's when he noticed a bulge. I never noticed it myself but he recommended getting it taken care of as soon as possible because of the risk of strangulation as I got older. I didn't like the idea of my intestines pushing through a hole in my gut, it just freaked me out, so I had the surgery . Back then it was more invasive than it is now and I had an ugly scar for years afterwards. Good times.

@@lisaprince7281 Hello Dr.Phinney ..I am female, just turned 54 (where did the darn time go?) After having constant soreness in my groin area for over 5 yrs, which began seemingly out of nowhere in 2014 (& not due to any injury that I was or am aware of), but having NO BULGE visable to the naked eye, I was not diagnosed with a hernia bc the Drs I saw were unable to physically locate my hernia upon examining me..even though my hernia SHOWED UP on an ultrasound AND on a CT! The Drs read my image reports, which clearly stated that I had an inguinal hernia, yet they STILL told me that I "did NOT HAVE A HERNIA" bc they could not find the bulge with their physical exam--even though it was clearly seen on all images!!! 🤷 After failing to properly diagnose me, one Surgeon even told me the following:" Well, you don't have a hernia, but even if u did, having surgery in your groin area can cause major complications, such as nerve damage and numbness in your groin." Can u believe a General surgeon who SPECIALIZES in Hernia repair would say this to me,or anyone with a painful hernia who has imaging proof that there IS a hernia!! Fast fwd about 3 more yrs after being told that "I had no hernia", and this hernia, which was THERE ALL ALONG FOR 8 YRS was finally diagnosed by my GP bc the bulge developed VERY CLEARLY in my groin..Now it's been 8 yrs since my groin pain began and I'm afraid to have surgery bc I'm afraid of what that surgeon told me 3 yrs ago..that surgery could make my pain even worse!!! What do u think of a general surgeon, who does MOSTLY HERNIA REPAIR, telling his patient that surgery to repair a hernia, could make that patient's pain even worse and cause complications? What should I do and is Inguinal hernia repair really a risky surgery? Also .I want to add that yet anoy Dr, who was also a General surgeon, told me that I have a Femoral hernia!! These Drs can't even get my diagnosis straight!! So please tell me..why are they not able to diagnose me correctly and are Femoral and /or Inguinal hernias dangerous to repair and what is the difference between the two??? Why are these Drs not agreeing on what kind of hernia I have?? Thank u for replying and explaining!!

my hernia is only visible, when i lay down, relax and push my lowet stomach in. then i can see my left side going inside more than the right side (where the sports hernia probably is). does this mean its theoretically possible to heal it? i have had it for 4 years, only now i started to live on a heatlhy diet, low inflammation, collagen supplements, etc. when i do visit my hernia from time to time, its also seems the muscle is irritated, since it seems swolen the whole right side a bit. is this normal for hernia?

sorry I don't check this regularly. instead of testicular cord structures that can provide an area of weakness, in female anatomy its about the round ligament which traverses the inguinal canal. you can still get an indirect hernia, direct hernia or femoral hernia. the repair is similar except we usually divide this ligament as it really doesnt serve a purpose. Other anatomical differences are that there are fewer nerves in the inguinal canal . hope this helps
@howardbarnes5604

This man's approach is excellent but it is from the perspective of traditional medicine. He does not depict the mechanics of the inguinal hernia and how it can be countered by natural remedy. The hernia is a pushing of the peritoneum or abdominal tissue outward thru a performation that, in my case, was caused by stress. By pushing back, it can be alleiviated. Can it be cured? Probably not. But if you interepret the symptom in terms of what your soul is trying to communicate, you will probably be okay.
