Race highlights at the NCC BMW Autocross (Solo) event #5 at Summit Point Motorsports Park Washington Circuit on 05 November 2022. One of the aspects of my data capture i enjoy most is the gee meter / acceleration circle. In Initial D, Bunta had Takumi use a cup with water in it to provide immediate, visual feedback of the force of acceleration in each axis. Well, most of us don't race with a cup of water, but we nonetheless try to use our butt dyno to ride the edge of the friction circle (available tire traction), just as the water rides the rim of the cup, from braking to turn-in to corner exit. This is tough to do consistently at-the-limit but it is nice to see where you get it right and where you fall short. If you are not swirling the water in the cup, you are probably leaving time on the table!
The Yokohamas now have one wet autocross, two dry autocrosses, and one Time Attack event on them. Now that they have worn about 1-2/32"(ironically, the tread depth that they were originally given before Yokohama molded them at 7/32" to be SCCA autocross compliant) they have far less squirm, tolerate heat better, and are more responsive. I am really starting to enjoy them... i just hope the wear rate tapers off a little.
