I just purchased a rongbaozhai ink stick, a beautiful ceramic painting dish, and all the things I need to get started to practice and learn Chinese painting and calligraphy, from your Etsy. It’s my birthday today and they are all dream items of mine. I will take very good care of them and treasure them, because they are from you and because you shared their beauty with me in your videos. I love you, my friend. ❤️

I don't think I could ever use an ink stick that pretty. I'd feel like I was destroying art! 😄

For the problem, there is also a solution. There are richly decorated ink sticks, which are intended as a decoration and not to use. These also cost much less.

That is a stunning ink stick. It would break my heart using it, but I bet it's a dream to work with. I'm not sure of the quality of the ones I have. Thank you for the instructions.

Where do you get these beautiful inksticks? I really want to try a quality fresh ground ink after so long of bottled inks.

I got from China a few years ago and I am doing a video to explain ink, ink stick, ink stone etc. It will be uploaded tonight or so. Thank you for passing by. I always admire artist.

Oh Haiying, that first stick is breath-taking! I am so glad you did this this morning! I had received my first high quality oil-based, (as opposed to the soot, for those unaware), as a birthday present from the lady who had been tutoring me until she became ill last month. I actually tried it for the first time a few hours ago-but I must admit, I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong. A few things: first, I kept grinding it and testing it out-but even after about 20-30 minutes, it just isn’t as black as my “beginners sticks” from soot. Second; is it me or do these oil sticks wear down faster than the soot sticks? I ended up adding a bit of my better quality liquid ink and I’m going to let it sit for awhile as it’s a bit thinner than I like it. After putting it aside, I started going through some of the books I have and one talked about some of the higher quality sticks having an oily or waxy coating on them to protect them from mold. I’d completely forgotten about reading this and I wonder if that’s the reason my ink wasn’t very black-i didn’t grind the coating off first? I’m going to try again after I get a little sleep. They started me on a new medication and it has both my sleep and my tummy all messed up. 🙄😖 Also, I do plan on still getting one of the ink dish/brush holders. I’m waiting for a check to clear. I had to, unexpectedly get a new carrier for my poor, “neglected” Kitty-Leela last week. (I’m sure you could tell how “neglected” she is from the pictures I sent you 😂). It seems my princess has gained a bit of weight and won’t fit into her regular carrier. 🙄😊. We had (another) gas leak scare here last week and when they said I needed to evacuate until they made sure it was OK-I couldn’t get her into the carrier! Luckily, she was fine with her “pretty dress” /harness and on a leash. She had a wonderful time socializing with the neighbors as everyone fawned over her. Goodness, I have a kitty who’s more of a social butterfly than her momma... 😊😸

did you put drops of water on a inkstone? Because I ran into the same problem. I put just 3 drops of water on a inkstone.

Hello, I lost my friend on Saturday because she fell Into a pond and banged her head and drowned. She was only 14 when she passed. I am absolutely torn apart and was wondering if you could make a video on how to get past things like this and let them go because it’s affecting my mental health and I still feel like I’m having a nightmare and can’t not accept the fact that she has gone. If you could make a video, that would be amazing.
