💡Environmental engineering innovation: drying out and gradually re-watering an arm of a river using a flexible cofferdam fitted with release holes
This technique has several advantages:
- Progressive water stress, which facilitates downstream migration of fish when flows fall and limits the need for backup fishing at the start of the works.
- Gradual release of water over 3 to 4 days at the end of the worksite to limit the massive release of fines and thus reduce the impact on water quality.
- Fusible cofferdam: the cofferdam can be removed in a few minutes in the event of flooding.
Report on the Valmont, a small coastal river flowing into the English Channel at Fécamp.
Work to restore ecological continuity: removal and decontamination of the Jean Macé dam, built in the early 19th century, which is no longer used for any particular purpose and is in an advanced state of disrepair.
