Great review Loyd. I wore this shoe for the last 60 miles of the Arc of Attrition this year. It was absolutely brilliant - tbh I should have started in it. It's a shoe that absolutely loves muddy conditions. In regard to the cushioning on harder surfaces, I found it to be absolutely fine for the road sections between St Ives and Hayle (but then I am not a lover of shoes with masses of cushioning).

Cheers Toby, glad you enjoyed the video. It's a solid trail shoe and I've really enjoyed running in it. I still think you should try it with the Boomerang footbeds in, especially for longer stuff! It doesn't take away any of the feel of the shoe, it just becomes more comfortable on the harder sections of trail or road 👌 Thanks for watching mate, hope you are recovering well! 🙏

@@Run4Adventure from you Loyd I’ll take that as sound advice and invest in a pair of the Boomerangs. As you said in the review, they may not have been included with the shoe due to trying to keep the price at a decent level. I’m presuming they are a straight fit and they don’t make any difference to the sizing of the shoe?

I have a pair of these and do like them, but they're not perfect. On the positive side, the grip is fantastic as you'd expect from that sole, and for me the cushioning and protection is pretty decent on more stony ground. For me, there are three negatives: 1) I understand why they've designed these a bit wider, but on very steep fell descents there is just a bit too much movement for the toes and they end up taking a bit of a battering. 2) I don't think the tongue design is brilliant - you end up with a fold in the material on top of the foot which can create hotspots. The standard tongue design in my Mudclaws and Roclites is more comfortable IMO. 3) They don't work very well with Invo8's trail gaiters - the hooks are very difficult to attach to the shoes on either side. You end up using a small screwdriver or similar tool to prise the openings apart to get them on.
@Run4Adventure

I'm not sure any running shoe is perfect Sam. It's a tricky thing to achieve when everyone's foot shape is unique and every runner moves differently. I'd personally like a little bit more padding in the tounge but I haven't had any issues with movement in the upper. I never use gaiters so I can't really comment on the attachments. Totally agree when it comes to the grip and traction, the outsole is really good on the X-Talon Ultra 260 V2's 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏

Hey 😊 I am looking at ordering some of the lady version of these, I run on forest trails, fields, and fell but I quite often need to run sections of connecting road, would these shoes be okay for that?
@damianreid2452
10 ай бұрын
Depends how much road. Midsole's a bit harsh for tarmac. If it really is just the odd short section of country lane before you hit the muddy trails again then the aggressive lug on these things could make them worthwhile but you'll need the mud to make up for the lack of cushion. Otherwise, consider the Inov8 trail flys he held up at the start of the video.

Nice review Lloyd. I've started to do quite a bit of training in the Peak District and I'm a big fan of the TerraUltra G 270. However, once the winter months came, the grip just wasn't sufficient when it got a bit muddy on the usual grassy trail parts (I know they're not actually built for this and are built for hard-packed trails etc). What are your thoughts on using the TerraUltra in the summer and drier months on terrain such as the Peak District and Snowdonia and then reverting to the X-Talon during the winter, wetter months? Cheers

I've never really been impressed with the grip and traction on the outsole of an Altra shoe Dan, especially in wet, muddy British conditions 🤔 I'd say the Inov-8 isn't quite as wide as an Altra but the toe box still has good room. Also the 8mm drop doesn't feel high, if I had to guess the drop I'd have said around 4mm. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊

Thanks for the thorough review Loyd. How does the toe box width compare with a Topo or Altra? I'm currently using Topo Ultraventure and Altra Lone Peak, but could really do with more aggressive sole for mud. @@Run4Adventure the only thing I can think is that inov8 tend to lack any arch and their wider fit shoes don’t lockdown on the mid foot as well as other either. So for me, my arch collapses which creates the ‘slap’ feeling (I think). It doesn’t happen in Hokas or La sportiva for me. Interesting the adidas are similar for you.

Have you tried the X-Talon 210? Despite hardly anything underfoot except the lugs I found that shoe to be really comfortable. Too bad the upper fell apart before I even made it to 300km. I am very hesitant about Inov8 shoes because of their terrible durability. I am currently rocking the Salomon Ultra Glide and the Asics Fuji Lite 2, both of which are phenomenal shoes at an affordable price point. Any thoughts about how these stack up? Having said that, the Inov8 outsole and lugs are the grippiest I have run in easily.

@@CyrrusNL yeah I saw that happening to all my mates' original orange ones. They were and still are hugely popular for orienteering and every pair I saw on others' feet was always in tatters. Except for this one guy who had managed to completely wear down the lugs in the center of the ball of the foot, but the upper remains were practically just a couple of strings at that point. The lugs were just completely sanded down into a few smooth nubs! The newer yellow ones are looking better though and the graphene infused rubber outsoles really hold up better.

How is the fit compared to the terraultra g 270 and trailfly 300? This shoe is a massive disappointment compared to V1. Grip is off course magnificent, but the shoe itself is very uncomfortable. The thin tung is a disaster and the midsole is very hard. The toe box is markable narrower than V1 and the upper is very stiff and uncomfortable. Lock and grip is excellent, rest is poor. I have run several ultras in the V1, that's impossible in this shoe.
