@@DanielMann when i went to cornwall two summers ago bass fishing was banned to us all together but not for commercial boat. Its mad because we only take a little compared to those commercial boats who take alot. In Ireland they did the opposite by increasing the recreational finishing but banned commercial and the bass numbers and size have sky rocked. They now have a very healthy supply.

@@keithgaler5586 its a lot easier with an echo sounder. That way you can dive straight on top of the fish. Rather than diving and searching the bottom( which obviously uses up your oxygen supplies a lot quicker) Keep still and close to the kelp and you can often take a shot within 30-40 seconds. A good nights sleep, good food, well balanced weights and practice all play they're part too. These guys make it look easy i know :-o

That ‘Decision Fatigue’ is also relevant to other predators and is one of the reasons why schooling is an ecological development for those lower down the food chain, both on land and in the water. Also, statistically, you have less chance of being found in a school.

joel fildes It’s amazing how our minds work (other animals included), and these really neat tricks that have developed throughout nature. We think we are so superior, but we are not. When I started uni 45 yrs ago we were taught that the thing that made us different was our use of tools. Now we know of many animals that do including those with ‘bird brains’. And many species exhibit emotion including elephants and whales and the primates. Even mantis shrimp have better eyes than us, and yet people still think that they are superior rather than just different. It is a truly beautiful and wondrous world. Despite people.

I love the term "decision fatigue" - it perfectly describes not being able to pick a target because there are so many good ones. I get that analysis paralysis all the time! It might be when I'm hiding in kelp staring at a big school of yellowtails off Catalina, or looking at a row of 50 craft beer taps..."that one looks good, no that one - wait, that one is better, but what about that one..." If my wife could freedive with me, she'd yell JUST SHOOT ONE DAMMIT! Like she does when I'm staring at bananas at the grocery store trying to decide which bunch looks best.
