THIS is what I'd buy a 3D Printer for, to make the fittings & mounts to install an electric motor into the top of a well build trashcan, maybe coat the trashcan with truck bed lining so it lasts decades.. And buy my own hoses. This is the best use of a 3D printer when used for work. But I'd bet most are used for printing Smurf Figurines type crap.

*There are two kinds of tools, one that is only used on the occasional weekend & those that are used all week long non stop for years.* So there is a time and a place for the better model that can last without a problem for years & there are those tools that you will not get a solid non stop month of use out of them before they break. I haven't needed to turn on my shop-vac on in a few months, so the lesser model is fine for me. Also I know how to replace the electric motor in this type of device.

The best way to test these vacuum cleaners. Is to make a precise mark on the glass for both units tape the suction tube to both of those glasses precisely on the line and turn them on and see how much sand is sucked up without touching the suction tube. From the very beginning when the switch is turned on the amount of sand sucked up immediately will determine the power. And then as it continues to suck that same power will be confirmed by what's left in the glass and how long it takes to get to that point. Leave both units on until no more sand is sucked up. See what sand is left. The machine that sucks the most sand the quickest. And the one that has the least amount of sand left over at the end is the winner

What about maintaining the filters, bags, longevity, ease of use/ergonomics, length of hose bla bla. I have a cheap draper vacuum on my chop saw to extract sawdust, expensive festool one for pulling behind my hand tools and using all day on site. I would not swap them as although they both ‘suck’ the cheap one would not replace the festool for it’s intended use.
