Just found your channel great to see BC has ambassadors for sport fishing on you tube. Was watching Bamabass, had to find something in waters I have fished. Thanks Fishing with Rod, for documenting the people and the sport fishing waters of the province.

Great vids guys - I'm an avid subscriber! I'm in the UK and visiting Vancouver Island in a few weeks to see some of my wife's family for the first time. Any place I go in the world, I'm compelled to fish if I get the chance, and as our hosts happen to live in Ucluelet...well...it'd be rude not to keep a couple of days spare for just this purpose! For me, nothing beats checking-off a 'first' and angling gives more variety in its opportunities to do that than any sport I can think of. So...in my short (first) visit, I'll be taking my opportunity to go on my first inshore salmon trip afloat, as well as my first crack at Fall steelhead on the Stamp (fly fishing). And, Rod and Kitty, you guys have been my constant point of reference throughout my planning ...as well as raising anticipation to fever pitch now! Now...Gotta start getting my gear together this weekend...
@FishingwithRod

Thank you Joe, that will be a very exciting trip for you! When you get here in a few weeks from now, I would look into possible beach fishing opportunities for coho salmon in Tofino. There are several beaches where this is possible. Stamp River fall steelhead should be good, but the chinook salmon fishery during that time will be even better, make sure you try lower down in the Somass River for them.

@@FishingwithRod I'll certainly have some gear with me - if you can give me any pointers on fly or lure gear to use/bring for the beach, it would massively help with my packing (and luggage allowance! :) ). I write a bit for a couple of the fishing magazines here in the UK, so hope I can get a couple of articles out of it too... credit to yourselves for any assistance of course! :D

Another gem!! Rodney was that a DJI spark drone you were using? I'm getting one for some overhead shots of saltwater coho fly fishing. Are you ever stressed landing it back on the boat? Great video again!!
@FishingwithRod

DJI Mavic Air. :) I'm always stressed whenever it is hovering over water. ;) You have to expect that it might not come back to you every time you fly it and accept it. ;)

I just watched a tv news report on CTV that there are no salmon off the bc coast so commercial boats are idle.Sept.22.
@FishingwithRod
5 жыл бұрын
That's a rather broad generalization. There are hundreds of salmon stocks in BC, some are in serious trouble, while others are experiencing the highest abundance in the recent decade. Each has to be managed individually.

These trips are for groups of four at least and when you break down the cost it is very reasonable and a lot cheaper than owning your own boat for the same type of trips.

maybe its just me but I find the "score keeping" you guys do annoying while you're ocean fishing. as a former guide I can tell you guests that come out for numbers and judge their days by the number of fish caught are not fun to fish with. if your favourite days are the ones where the fish bite all day, you're in for a lot of disappointment. telling viewers that you did not catch certain fish at the dock after a day of fishing will not please any guide you fish with especially when a lot of factors account for that failure that you do not realize. just a thought

@FishingwithRod
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, that's an excellent point and well taken. It certainly isn't our intention to emphasize that numbers should be used to define how trips are. Anyone who fishes a lot knows fishing can be fast on some days, and slow on some days, but there are many other aspects that make a trip good. I'll keep this in mind when we produce future episodes. Thank you. Rod

He ended up setting the hook most of the time because we were not by the rods, otherwise we'd be doing it too. :) It wasn't because the guide didn't want us to do it.
