Wow, Alex knows more about her engine than a lot of good mechanics. She's lucky to have a father that brought her up to know everything that is going on with her/his cars. He's lucky to have a daughter so hands on and smart. It's clear she is not a spoiled brat and appreciates and works hard for what she has.

To check the bore size on the big end and small end of the rods look into air gauges. They are more precise. The heat in your hand can affect the reading of a snap gauge or a micrometer and calipers. I used them at work for rod bearings beater clearance.

What an excellent and exciting video. One point that I really enjoyed is camshaft talk, most everyone over cams the motor and the only reason you would ever do it is because of poor head design or flow. You get so much more power/reliability out of a camshaft by going "normal" persay than some top secret weapon. Of course there are a few " tricks" only because of many different combinations or class rules etc. but simple makes a happy motor. High lift, fast ramp rates and too much duration cams are for top fuel, pro stock and pro mods "low pass engines". What a great group of professionals. Excellent video ❤

When it comes to timing chain, belt or gears I always choose chain as well. However I’ve always wanted to try something with timing gears and hope to get past the harmonics of gears by submerging the gears in their own oil bath specifically for gears and machine input and output ports on the cover in order to add an electric oil pump, cooler and filter. Draw the fluid from the bottom and inject it right on top of each gear. I’m wondering if that’s ever been done in order to either eliminate or reduce the harmonics as well as prolong the life of the gears. I kinda got it from the gearbox of a lathe and how they are submerged in oil as well as having oil squirters on the gears. I’ve seen lathes run all day long for years with little to no gear noise. From what I’ve learned about the rod bolts being torqued past 6 months it has to do with galvanic corrosion from the dissimilar metals and the aluminum threads being the weak point and stretching much faster than steel threads. But that’s just what I’ve heard and seen.

Curious on your rods & how u want to be able to check them etc. for any 0.0000 variations etc., would be curious what happens to the rods specs in the engine when HOT, ? I would think there must be a noticeable difference when aluminum rod reaches engine temperature compared to a aluminum rod sitting/checking on a 70 degree work bench ?? Especially how you express you would like to verify rod dimensions to the 4Th. Decimal?? love your tenacity man really love/much respect all your Quality basics not just detection but prevention mindset…

Its funny, I had pretty much stopped watching Alex Taylor videos after she became an "influencer". Her collaboration with Lucky Costa seemed forced and scripted and the videos were overly long and wordy. Thankfully this one was produced because it, once again, shows the amazing easy relationship she has with her dad. The script just flows. She and her dad have a special magic where they can almost finish each others sentences, they are respectful and provide the type of factual entertainment that made them so special. The un-edited shots like the timing chain breaking, where they have multiple thoughts seamlessly occurring, are what makes their videos great I hope they make more like this.
