9:06: I remember going to CompUSA with my Dad to buy a copy of Sonic CD and Sonic 3 and Knuckles Collection for my Mac computer way back in 1996 for my 6th birthday. Precious times, and my father died in July of 2001 😢

Loved this place. You could even get video games at great prices. It was different from the usual Best Buys and CC in that pricing was cheaper for some components and more varied. Like a mini Frys.

I loved CompUSA. We also had a Computer City down the street, which my father, younger brother (RIP) and I would also visit. Funny, though - I don’t recall my CompUSA carrying console systems.

My final memory at CompUSA was when 3dfx voodoo 5 was released and they had a PC on demo with AMD Athlons around 600 MHz. During closeout I bought an PS 12 Infinity sub, still in use today.

We had a CompUSA store where I live years ago. Not sure when it closed down. Had to have been in the mid 2000s. Circuit City and Best Buy were the two stores that outcompeted CompUSA. It was a fun little store to go to every once in a while. Some things were unique to that store compared to Circuit City and Best Buy.

I liked CompUSA as well. The bigger stores were a lot more fun than the smaller ones. But nothing like a Best Buy or a Circuit City in my opinion.

These days you can make a video in a store or wherever and most people wont notice you can quickly hide your phone. Back in 97 you walked in with a big-ass VHS camera on your shoulder like Don't mind me Bro.

Now imagine MS Office 2000$ or iMac G3 for 5999$ basic PC AMD K6-2 for 2999$ and CorelDRAW 2000$, Borland C++ Builder 3 1500$ this is how it looks like in China, Poland every price 4x because of how currency work. If you think software is pricy just imagine how is to live in country where you can live just fine unless you purchase product made in USA. Not worth the price! CD Project RED before used to sell PC was called Optimus, destroyed by our governemt (bribes) and HP. They created law to destroy every company making PCs - HP, Dell woudn't need to pay VAT. There was investigation in US agains HP. Optimus grew so large they created CD Project to translate games for example Baldurs Gate 2 then purchased engine from Bioware to create Whitcher and story continues. I remember that time, prices aren't much lower these days but relatively are. So i experience now only after 20 years, Your normalcy of 1998. How is to purchase very good PC for 1299$, how is to purchase software for just 200$ equivalent in my currency. Because everyone in Poland and so in China earn couple times more money in relation to dolars. Relative to our own economy not much changed. This is good for both becaues so much more people outside US can afford to purchase products manufactured in USA. In past these were just not available for relatively good price. Apple was always symbol of status.. was made in USA. Valued to be affordable in USA symbol of status everywhere outside USA. While in reality - only reason was way how currency works. Nothing to to with quality of product. Every country should have own brands, but people didn't understand that in past. And was purchasing Apple despite fact - nobody in USA would purchase iMac G3 for 5999$ in USA. This is why in some countries people was making fun of Apple users.. well deserved. In USA this company offered really good products, for really good price.

Thats when I bought apple stock. Everybody was buying wintel computers back then and michael dell said apple should liquidate and sell off the pieces to the highest bidder. Today compusa is no more, dell iwent private and the stockholders lost their money and g ot $17 a share . Compaq, gateway 2000 ibm all gone. Their stockholders all lost their money plus im smarter than warren buffet because he missed the boat on apple back in 1997
