I worked in a restaurant in downtown KC. My fellow waiter, a lovely gay man, got a call one night at work from the police who had just arrested his neighbor Bob. They wanted to take a peek in my friend’s back yard. Later, we learned about the horrendous crimes. It was shocking, but I was not surprised that it was him. My friend never suspected anything and was surprised when I told him my previous observation of Bob. I can barely watch this video.

One thing about psychopaths: The story is always about them, not about the public making fun, not about the media getting it wrong about diaries, always about them. He wants the public to have a set in stone opinion about him, a set in stone image of him that cannot change or deviate. What we have here is deviation from the narrative he portrays and he hates it because these are his murders, his image and life that is getting twisted.

Psychopathy is such a perplexing, curious, and extremely fascinating topic for me. I’m about halfway through Robert D. Hare’s book titled “Without Conscience” and it’s a phenomenal read so far. Still, no matter how many books & articles I read, videos I watch, the topic of psychopaths and how their brains are wired is truly an enigma. Great video, guys. The audacity of this piece of human sewage to try and water down the absolute atrocities he committed is beyond anything I could come close to comprehending. He (along with other evil sludge of society like Watts, Todt, Peterson, Downs, Bundy, any individual who commits atrocities like these and any crimes against our innocent children) really bring that much more substance to Shakespeare’s quote, “Hell is empty and all the devils are here.” Take care

@@tlindsay1007 It's standard of care (in Canada) for doctors to prescribe prenatal vitamins and discuss the importance of good nutrition during pregnancy. As for advising about higher doses of vitamin D, that seems to be within their discretion but is not standard protocol. Also informed expectant mother's can request a vit D serum test to screen their levels and identify if additional supplementation is indicated. But this is not generally offered as part of the prenatal work up. Since the main purpose of adequate vit D serum levels is to support the mother's immune system to protect her against viral infections I wonder if it would be beneficial for expectant mother's to wear a mask when out and about during cold and flu season?

For anyone who wants to know, this is Robert Berdella. And before anyone says "Yes we know..." No one mentions it anywhere!! Not the panel and not in chat! I searched over 500 comments, before i even discovered a name 'Bob'. I know, I know. I'm even boring myself now. Thanks. Bye. 😅

I remember Aileen Wuornos also stated that the police could have stopped her sooner if they wanted because she was no expert and indeed a sloppy killer .

I just wanted to say that I really like the way you put your qualifications on the screen instead of the way you used to do it. Perhaps you took my previous suggestion. It’s very professional and it looks good😎 cheers! I love to watch you guys and I always learn something.

I don’t like watching this guy. I was living in Kansas City at the time he was caught. I was actually in law school at the time. I had been to his flea market in Westport. I hope I didn’t eat anything.🙀

I know it may be boring to some regular viewers, but I would really appreciate when you guys use terms to explain them best you can as you go. Like saying “ chaff and redirect” I don’t know what that is, I realise regular viewers may and the at you guys may get sick of explaining the same thing over and over but would be a big help to new viewers. Just some input. Thanks for the great content 👍

I'm going to do a little devil's advocacy here. Accept as axiomatic that this person is a psychopath. Therefore, he is not capable of the full bandwidth of human emotion, with the most notable deficit being empathy and compassion. He does not conceive of others as "real" in the sense that he is "real" to himself. This doesn't mean he isn't capable of logical reasoning, or that he can't attribute motives to other people's behaviors. He just can't understand those motives in a sense other than abstractly. He understands that there are rules, but not why they have deeper meanings to everyone but him. He doesn't know why they matter. I think what he is trying to do here is express his frustration that the emotional ramifications of his behavior on "normal" people defy his attempts to make sense of them. And there is a sense that he feels he is being treated unfairly. He has almost certainly been persuaded to accept that he will be held accountable for transgressing despite his diminished capacity to understand why he expected to feel badly about it. And I think he is also trying to point out that society will continue to be vulnerable to people like him because of the tendency to dehumanize him. If the only people who do such horrible things are storybook villains, they should be easier to spot. He's saying that he "got to a point" where he could commit these crimes by denying the precepts used to socialize him, not be being either superhuman (an evil satanist who performs esoteric rites and rituals) or subhuman (and therefore unworthy of the supposedly inalienable rights with which we are all endowed). I think he is surprised that people, including the media that caters to the tastes of the public, can't accept that he is fully human and won't extend the empathy and compassion to him that they want to punish him for denying to his victims. At this point I'll mention again that he is not capable of empathy and compassion. It's not that he deliberately withholds those things; he just doesn't have them. They are missing from his standard-issue-human package. This is also why he is fundamentally incapable of grasping that the tendency to dehumanize him is a coping mechanism, not a tit-for-tat pettiness. I'm not sure that he can conceptualize the level of horror the average person experiences when contemplating his deeds, let alone how someone faced with that horror must then adjust their emotional resources to retain the ability to function. It doesn't compute. I'm not excusing his behavior or trivializing what he did or the impact it had. But I think his body language makes more sense when viewed through the lens of his fundamentally diminished emotionally perceptive ability. He shows contempt when he perceives hypocrisy in the press that not only gets the facts wrong (wrong in that they disagree with the way he sees them), but by the act of doing so makes the public more likely to be blind to people like him operating among them. And as an advocate not for the devil, but for those of us bedeviled with neurodivergent conditions, I'll point out that not all psychopaths (whether they are broken toys, emotional voids, raging narcissists, or sub-human monsters) are criminals. Some are even prosocial in their behaviors. I encourage everyone to read the story of neuroscientist James Fallon. He's done a Ted Talk, and there's a writeup of his story in The Smithsonian Magazine, but I'm sure it's in lots of other places as well.

Wow guys this creature was a fascinating study. The only "almost human" reaction I saw in him was when asked about what might happen to him in prison. For just one moment a slight catch in his voice, an almost lip quiver, a momentary increase in moisture in the eyes, and that flash of the eyes...that was fear. Fear for himself when he realizes that he will now be the prey and not the predator. He will now be the tortured and abused. He will be without power and that one thing terrifies him. And even in that he could not fully connect. That's why I say "almost human" emotion. Almost...almost...but not quite.

Goodness. I’ve never agreed with you four or appreciated you more than in this video. When he was talking about the radio station, all I could think was “he’s just mad they’re making fun of him”. Then Mark goes into the brilliant discussion of humor and post-modernism. I’m not always smarter after I watch a video, but in this case I was.

Very abusive upbringing causes sociopathy, nature is psychopathy; Berdella was raised with horrific abuse from his father in a very religious household.. Rejection and contempt and shaming from the father seems to have been internalised by the son.

What Chase said about chances of psychopathy being lesser nearer to the equator is quite interesting. I'm from Kenya and it's very rare to hear of such crimes. That is serial offenders of sexually motivated murders. That is not to say there is no crime, there is crime. It's just that you will hardly hear of anything like this.
