Nike founder and chairman Phil Knight talks about how he turned selling shoes out of the back of his car into a multi-million dollar company in his new memoir 'Shoe Dog'
Im half way through this guys book, and hes sure earned that $28 billion, christ, the first 12 years or so of his company are just incredibly difficult times, anyone else would have given up and he didnt. Its easy to judge people flippantly, but Buck Knight is an inspiration.

well chinese worker are get their money too, its not like they offer their life to make a shoe the wage are raising too for the emerging country, that offer was a great deal, emerging country cant make their own product and get their money from selling mineral, so if they can get money from outsource work, its great, emerging nation salary and the first world salary are not same, price of food and other product are cheaper too in emerging country, it fit they salary in my country, people who outsource nike shoe was a rich company and pay their wage fair yeah people always see all the people that richer than him are greedy and cunning, and they dont even see how they work like crazy from the start, and dont care too this kind of envy people are toxic people who didnt work hard but complaining all the time in the book its say phil knight always in debt with bank that can make him go bankrupt and he get on fire always almost 10 year before he get nike IPO his parent are not a rich parent too, he self made his fortune through hard work are being rich are a guilt?

The art was more to get popular people wearing his shoes than creat them. Saling was his business even you can make some sport shoes but making them to top brand is another thing. Puma and Adidas is nearly the same. The most stressful thing is saling them not making.
@jensenraylight8011

yeah because western culture are heavy on sport, but it doesnt give same reaction in other country some country are more price minded of course create the shoe are more important thing that make nike big like today, they interview many of the athlete from different kind of sport to make the shoe better, he stated to in the early day they only rely on shoe development, because the most strong marketing are the product performance itself nike start as blue ribbon sport that there are adidas, puma, and diadora on the market on that time, and he did thing he didnt stand a chance to beat all the industry giant maybe nowaday shoemaker are not as good as phil knight in some country, the warehouse defect product that not pass the quality control are the people mostly buy, because they cheap, there many people who cant afford $100 shoe and if you go to nike outlet, there no people inside and there so many piracy of nike knockoff product

She deserves more than just the 500 shares worth $1 million today. Some may disagree but in my opinion, that Nike Swoosh is a huge reason that Nike has become so successful, I may be wrong but I really do believe that that logo has had a gigantic impact on the success of this company, yeah the actual shoes and clothes are awesome but I think that logo has had a lot bigger impact than people think. Just think, she’s gotten $1 million from all this and Phil Knight is worth somewhere in the $30 billion mark. Like I said, I love Nike and wear Nike products practically every single day but I don’t believe Nike would be what it is without that Logo..
@filmingyu6623

If you knew what this man went through for 60 years building this company, his net worth is justifiable over one moment in time hiring a new designer for a logo that had no guarantee if it even had a future at the time. Don't forget Nike was new and broke when they made the logo.

Fantastic man. Loving his book that I am really 'slow reading'. As for this lady, who carried out this interview, I really didn't like how she did this. She speaks over her guest and creates a confusing mix between decent journalism and an attempt at entertainment. It seems that Phil himself has little patience for her.

@00smg1978

What he meant was she received 500 shares at Initial Public offering, and accounting for stock splits and stock price increase it is worth a million in total. Of course, its only worth that much when she sells it. But I am sure she is doing just fine financially.

Maybe you should be blaming the countries for not letting Nike raise the wages of the workers because it ruins the economy. Maybe you should blame the factory owner that leaves the factory in terrible condition and leaves Nike to make the working conditions better. We just want to blame the rich because we want what they have. We are jealous. It’s simple as that. A hater never did better than the person he was hating on.
