I did a video over 2 years ago on the Q-tip with toothpaste or fine valve grinding compound. Its called leaky honda style carb cleaning, or something like that, LOL. But I have never considered doing what you did with the needle! Absolutely GENIUS Bob!!!! I cant wait to try it...

Hi guy's These are great tips for stopping the leaks we seem to be getting more of nowadays. I've been using the q-tips a lot since you made your video Steve, it works great but i have never seen the way you cleaned your needle before Bob. Another tip i picked up a while ago was using a stick on the seat, any stick with a point on it works but a cuticle stick works best for me. Because its only wood its not going to damage the metal seat but at the same time its hard enough to remove any crusty build up. Its worked every time and took my carb cleaning to a new level.

Great tips, DW6. I'm like you (& a lot of other KZitem fix-it guys), I always try to rescue equipment without spending $. That's the fun of it. But recently I simply had to buy a Briggs lawn mower carb & I got one from Amazon for about $9. Hard to justify the time required to save a carb vs. these low prices, I gotta admit. BTW, I closely examined the nine buck unit & it is extremely well-machined. I haven't run it yet because it's winter here, but I've used aftermarket parts for years with great success.

Spray can yes👏 float needle 🤦♂️ That ring you are seeing is a coating on the viton...nothing more. That’s all you removed. I’ve been in this carb business along time. I have seen viton tip grooved bad and to get a customer by in a pinch what I do with my seat tools is open up the circumference of the seat...give unused rubber on the tip a place to contact new seat ring. This is a trick I started doing on old brass tip needle and seats. Viton was a major improvement. I’ve never used qtips, nor a ultra sonic cleaner. Just assortment of wire brushes, simple green, paint gun cleaning brushes, and my own homemade seat tools.

Hi double wide how you doing, how's your son doing I hope he's been doing well? I just want to say your tip on using the dw40 oil aerosol caps. I've seen this guy on Hank's Garage demonstrating that first a few years ago on on his KZitem Channel. I don't know if you seen his video clips or familiar with him. I've been watching his videos as long as I've been watching yours and donny-boy 73, Bruce shop, mustie1 and others Small Engine KZitemrs. Just wanted to give you a heads-up that I've been using the dw40 aerosol caps on my aerosol cans for a while now.

Bob did you test the needle with a Mityvac afterwards? I’d be curious how it holds pressure after the Re-dressing. Thanks for the tip. I had one of those last week and drove 25 miles to get a good used needle!!! Timing is everything. The last time I tried “cleaning” the rubber tip it broke off!!
@doublewide6
3 жыл бұрын
I didn't mityvac it. But it seems to be holding just fine. I don't know if the vitral tip has a coating on it or not. The customer said it was leaking gas, the tank was empty when I got it. Looking at the ridge in the needle it was closed so it should not have been leaking. I'm thinking the guy was priming like mad because it would not start and that is where the leak came from. For what it is worth I did it again yesterday on a lawnmower and that seems to be holding just fine (but this one was not leaking originally).

Great tips!! Any idea how to rescue a carb that's been damaged by the oxygenated ethanol gas we're forced to use now? As in cleaning out the tiny passages that get clogged with the crystallized fuel? I've tried piano wire on one and it was OK afterwards, but I have a really bad one that may not clean up with that trick.

I thought either the carbs had a little rubber seal that meets with the needle valve or the needle valve had a little rubber tip on it????? I never thought it was a metal to metal seal. When you first did the test it popped off at 10, after you honed it it was popping at 3-5 less.
