I have a Lead 12 for like almost 6 years... I always avoid equipment discussion as I found it boring, but those old Marshalls including mosfets have some magic inside them... Never wanted to have more guitars than neccessery, but definitely could have collection of those little pieces that REALLY boogie...!

Can't argue with them tones! Solid state, PCB, hand wired, tube - I don't care as long as it gives me something I like. I do wish they still built 'em that way though: big aluminum heat sink, TO-3 style transistors, old school solid state.

The circuit layout of this amp looks to be almost identical to my Marshall 75 Reverb (Model 5275), which is another great sounding amp. Other posts on the web suggest that the 75 Reverb is the same amplifier as the Mosfet 100. The weak point of the 75 Reverb is the stock Celestion Sidewinder 150w speaker, which is loud but not very musical. Connected to a cab, the amp is transformed. If you ever come over to the UK Johan I would love you to play my Model 5275 so I can hear how it is supposed to sound! Actually, I would be happy to loan you mine and ship it to Sweden if you wanted to play it, as long as you send it back to me because I love this amp. On condition that you don't play it through the stock speaker, as it doesn't do the amp justice.

On the head version you could insert a 1/4" jack partially into the footswitch jack and get a blend of both channels. I had two of those over the years, just dont feel like a tube amp or have a full sound. At least these two didn't. For super cheap I guess they aren't bad.

The Mosfets recently got my attention....any idea how the 5100 compares to the 3210? Is the 5100 just the Combo-version of it? I'm definetly aiming for a Head since I got plenty of cabs and the Mosfet-line seems to be a nice Rock-Amp.
@JohanSegeborn

+Smoke 165 I think it's Head/combo version, maybe with some smaller differences. The head was often sold with 4x10s of G12L-35 and the Combo used G12H-100, without knowing for sure I assume that's the biggest difference. Cheers Johan

Just bought a Vox AC4 and have been comparing it to my all solid state Vox Pathfinder 15R amps - and I don't really hear any difference, I don't hear that so-called "Warm tube tone" that so many describe. Not to mention - I believe the Vox AC4 is a true Class A amp, so it should be the tubiest of tube amps. These Marshall Mosfet amps, and some of those Peavey bandit amps sounded so good - much better than the more modern modeling amps of today.

@@pirandelloluigi1223 have you tried it through a 4x12? It'll blow your mind lol. I've got a few cabs with different speakers in, v30s probably suit it best, but the "normal" mode on channel A cranked up full (master on what ever you're comfortable with) is a plexi all day long. Sounds good with Celestion black backs too. The crazy thing is, no one really knows what these amps are, in the UK I've seen them for as little as £100 and still no buyer. They were very expensive when they were realesed in the '80s, not far off the jcm 800 price and that's probably why they never made it

Johan Segeborn Thanks johan, but you must try the 3210, in my opinion is the best mosfet, very similar to 2210. the mosfet 5100 is based on a sound more similar to jcm900 and I think like you that that amplifier defines worse the notes than the jcm800 and The crunch is colder. Between the marshall lead 12 and the 5100 mosfet which do you like more? Sorry for the English, I'm Spanish;) greetings

Your videos convinced me of tube propaganda. lol I want absolutely no part of a tube amp. The fact that my amp relies on a 13 dollar light bulb is enough to tell me that I'm being sold a Lamplifier, not amplifier. Is it not defeating the purpose - buying a 1000 dollar amp then you NEED a 13 dollar temperamental light bulb to run it? Ouch, no more 1000 dollar tone, because of a 13 dollar malfunction. When those amps, tubed, burn out, they simply will not play, or if they become illegal. I will still be able to plug in and play, the tone delivered purely by the amp manufacturer, and not a tube company - true amp purest. I know that many tubed will last a lifetime, and that's good. But, my Electradyne and Dc10 are for sale. I'm keeping my 66 Bassman until it appreciates then selling. Going pure Mosfet, SS analog. SICK of tube temperments. I CANNOT tell the difference between the 2, besides the tube amp hisses more. And, the Mosfet sounds warmer, more ambient to me. Are these not the very 2 things coveted in amplification - Warmth, fat, ambient, organic? I was beside myself when I blind tested them - I ACTUALLY preferred the tone of the SS. WAY less fizz! WOW - I'm out of the tube propaganda, for sure. Thanx for the videos. I will be watching more. Later, Jason "let's go". I would like to see if I can convert tube to SS.
