Hi I'm currently working in a fabrication shop building and installing custom steel doors and windows. I have experience with welding cutting and machinery but specialized in door and window installation. I'd like to start installing gates, handrails, doors, bathrooms and patios doing a lot of the work myself at first My question would be how can I start my own business as a handyman/subcontractor with confidence? Where can I find the answers to these tests and what licenses do i actually need? I'm definitely willing to take courses if it's justified to my time and money

If you are specializing in custom steel doors and windows, gates, and handrails there are specialty licenses you can look into as well. Here are some that may work for you: digitalconstructive.com/c61-d28-california-garage-door-license/ digitalconstructive.com/c23-contractor/

If I already have a C8 concrete license, will I need to take the Law and Business (CSLB) exam again? Or just the General Building exam?
@digitalconstructive5486

You will only need to take the General B exam. No law. We have trade-only courses available. If you would like you can email zach@digitalconstructive.com for more information.

Do I need a contractors license if my business only does ornamental Ironworks(balconies, stair rails, fire escape...etc)? Also do I have to take the test in the city I'll be working in or just the state?
@digitalconstructive5486
3 жыл бұрын
Hello Salvador. If your ornamental iron works projects are over $500 in labor and materials, then you would need the C-23 Ornamental Metals license. This video breaks it all down: kzitem.info/news/bejne/xqWjwKqqZpWGeJg As for where you would take the examination. This would be assigned to you based on your zip code when you apply to the CSLB (Contractors State License Board)

@@digitalconstructive5486 thank you very helpful! One more question. I new someone that obtained their general contractors L and this person knew nothing about construction. How was this possible? Note: I'm interested in shady business or back door's
@digitalconstructive5486

@@salvadorramirez4114 My guess would be that the state board receives thousands of applications and some people are able to slip through the cracks and get test dates. From there perhaps either they are skilled test-takers or re-take it multiple times until they pass.
