It's a nice documentary for what it contains but you've left out some of the most important personal details of both Uncle Franklin and Auntie Anna's lives. Their marriage was troubled though they had 6 children and Sarah Delano was a nightmare. She lived in the other half of the duplex in New York City and ran the lives of her son, her only child, and her daughter-in-law to such an extreme that Vlkil became a necessary hideaway for Eleanor. (Yes, her first name was Anna and that is how I remember her.) Uncle Franklin died before I was born but I remember Auntie Anna very well. Most of the time, she was at Valkil and from her personal letters, her female companions were much more than companions. One woman, whose name I won't mention to protect her from gay haters) received many letters from Eleanor, passionate, detailed and very private. Uncle Franklin had a string of mistresses which made Eleanor miserable. She was stuck with an overbearing dragon of a mother-in-law who directed her life at every turn, deciding on decor, china, and even bathroom fixtures. She was nosey and extremely jealous of the time Frankin spent with his wife in private. Today, no woman would endure that. Sarah would have been kicked to the curb posthaste and not invited back in. I remember almost all the houses included in this documentary and I can tell you my leas favourite house which was Warm Springs. To Eleanor's dismay, Lucy Mercer, Franklin's mistress at the time, was there with him when he died. Elenor had a very long train ride from Georgia to the Capitol to sort out her anger, the flagrant betrayal of Lucy Mercer when Franklin had promised never t see her again. She was also grieving deeply for a man who was truly great in every sense of the word. There are so many tales I could tell but the main point is that there were many things that happened in those houses that have coloured my perceptions radically. Between the two of them, I'd pick Eleanor over Frnkin hands down.

The Factory became apartments in the mid 1970's. They were wonderful.

Visited Warm Springs and found it warm and cozy as a retreat from the vigors of his demanding life.

I toured Springwood Hyde Park some years ago, and ever since have admired the colour of the shutters on the house. I call it “springwood green” since I don’t know the proper name.
