some lifts take a long time to actually open the doors after you press the call button, compared to older relay controlled lifts which respond instantly

You know what would really be scary? Hardware like a lift such as this being interfaced with an end-user OS (because pretty graphics and easy button pressing hurrdurr), and then some lift company thinks "Wouldn't it be nifty if we could connect remotely for troubleshooting? I know, let's connect it to the internet!". Come to think of it, there's no way that's not already been happening for years...

You'd be shocked how many of these types of devices running android has AnyDesk running on them 24/7, and on start up too. Thus far, in my country, I have came across countless POS and general public facing devices running android that has AnyDesk running constantly... It's already been happening for years and yeah, it's pretty easy to figure out why this is bad.

I really like that moving motor room idea ... it's such a huge innovation in terms of construction of buildings
@benolifts
Жыл бұрын
More building sites should use this system. Surprising how few places use it. Another great innovation that is rarely used is the moving concrete factory. This replaces the regular concrete factory at the top of the construction with a set self contained factory section, and the entire factory is raised up as the building grows. This uses a travelling crane (like in a shipyard) instead of the traditional tower crane. The Mace factory towers in Stratford used this system, but they ran into technical difficulties in removing the factory once the building was complete.

@@benolifts I can only guess the reason why it's not commonly used is that both Kone and Schindler charge a lot more than cheapo climbing lifts for the priviledge.

Everywhere where there is a Screen there is an OS behind most of the times its Windows because it is the easiest to hide. But Android and other distros do exist to MacOS is almost never used in this application. Android won't be used as a replacement for the logic it's only a way an engineer can interact with the Lift without having to plug in a PC.

Did you get a look behind the android tablet to see if it's just a gutted tablet? Because the viewing angles looks like what you get on the cheapest low-end tablets, and the frame looks kinda homemade

Bad take. Either they actually should not be lazy, and use embedded shit for their software (which means doing everything from scratch), or they will be lazy and just use a OS. Modern cars for example, now are totally so OS controlled. It seems risky always, but obviously this trend won't stop it's way even in the lift industry for example. How else do you think those modern lifts that have IoT control and internet monitoring work, they are no longer what they used to be And I am pretty sure that is just a frontend. So the "Android system" and the true logic controller are not sharing the same "soul".

@@SimonBauer7 Yes it is . Not only the hacking issue, but the bugs. And , based on what we see in the vid it is an android from the 6 to 9 era . So a very outdated version. And trust me , even if the system is outline the main machine can be accessed that easy. Beno just showed us how he reached the terminal . A proprietary operating system will remain the only good choice . At least you can not only start unecessary services , but you can remove them from the systemd and the kernel . And yes , as Beno said , nothing worthes microcontrollers . You define what is possible or not . This is impossible with a GENERIC os .. And I am an IT security engineer I can show you how easy it is to hack even a fire sensor ...

@@bernie2237 We don't actually get to see SystemUI at all, you can't tell what version it runs. Just because the app looks old it doesn't mean the OS itself is.
