I should say that my favourite bit would be what Victor chose because I have a master's in astrophysics ... But actually I'd find the wall showing the history of their cameras more interesting seeing how things have changed over the years including, I assume, the migration from film to digital cameras. Photography is something I'm quite interested in but not very good at, when your eyes are normally out of focus it's quite hard to take a good picture. Great video ... And somewhere to go look up next time I'm in Tokyo.

I was in that museum last November and I loved it. My favourite part was one of the documentary films about the R&D that went into the cameras used in the arctic by Naomi Uemara, a solo explorer. Nikon built a titanium body camera with a host of mods to make the camera work in the harsh conditions, even going so far as to build a test lab capable of temperatures of -50 degrees C. Before using Nikons, Uemara had had his camera literally fall apart soon after starting his trip using a dog sled. He was surprised to see the journalists all using cameras in the cold weather when he was met at the end of his trip and he asked them what they were using (Nikons as it turns out). He then decided to approach Nikon. The other thing about this museum that blew me away was the number of lenses, including wide angle lenses the size of a dinner plate and extremely long telephoto lenses that you showed in your video. Many lenses were prototypes that never made it to production although sadly, many prototypes were destroyed. I spent about three hours here and I feel that I just scratched the surface. I wrote a longer review in Reddit that you can find here: www.reddit.com/r/Nikon/comments/a7yi0i/nikon_museum_in_tokyo/ For what it is worth there is also the Tokyo Museum of Photography in Yebisu, next to the Yebisu Beer Museum that is well worth a visit. They have really interesting exhibits, usually of contemporary artists.

My favorite thing is that when you are in a museum, you can always find something to relate to, no matter how old the gallery is. For example, the gold 1984 Nikon camera. I think if you had done this live, every one would have been asking you to show them their "birth year camera" Haha ^^ I'm starting to collect pins, and I love camera's so this give away is fantastic! Thanks guys, and good luck to all!

I visited this place in August of last year. And had the cops called on me by a drunk Japanese old man accusing me of taking pictures of babies or something... cops looked at my camera and found pictures of architecture of the nearby buildings of the Nikon and Canon HQ In the area.. one they established I was not a weird pedophile with no pictures of babies(?) they left me to go on my way. Heh not exactly a memory I’m fond of, but I still look back at it and laugh. Also gorged myself on literally 30 plates of sushi at the Kura sushi near there. NIKON! I didn't even think to check if they had a museum, I'm a bit of a fangirl, the first DSLR I researched, saved, and waited for the price to drop was a D40. I still occasionally pull it out as I love the 50mm lens on it for low light shots. I've since purchased a Fujifilm X100S. I'd love to see all of the museum, but hopefully I'll get a chance to visit Japan again and maybe see it for myself. Also, didn't realise you were also a 1984 baby! Cheers~ I'm a pretty avid pin collector, but am missing a camera one, this one would be awesome to have, can I win it as a birthday gift? LOL! Would be nice, but hope someone who really wants it gets it! (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧

LOL! The film rabbit hole is deep! Awesome episode, I didn't know that there was a Nikon Museum in Shinagawa. I'm not too surprised though, there's an awesome Fujifilm Museum in Tokyo Mid-Town. I wonder if there's a Canon Museum somewhere near. As for Nikon; personally, I went with the Nikon F3 instead of the FM2. But I do understand the appeal of the FM2. Was it lost on anyone that you filmed a Nikon Museum on a Canon Camera? I mean, if you at least used a Sony the sensors would be the same ;) Thanks for the info!

Canon A-1 ftw. 😎 Of course with SLRs, once you pick one brand, no matter how random that choice may be, you tend to stick with it forever, because of the lens mount. That's a kind of vendor lock-in that Apple, Google, and Microsoft can only dream of.

There's definitely a lot of interesting part of the museum from the lenses to cameras. However I must say my favourite part would be the information about glasses and how the lenses were made; It's not something you find often. That wall full of Nikon's camera is super cool as well, it's like looking at how cameras and their designs change over time. To be honest I would love to stand there and just admire all the camera stuff around. I don't shoot with Nikon though, but now I wonder if Canon have their own museum?

So I learned some cool (maybe) stuff about astronauts the other day that made me super glad I never wanted to be one. In the early stages of humans in space exploration, there were no 0 gravity toilets, so astronauts had to tape a bag to themselves to poop. And even with 0 grav toilets, there is a certain amount of manual involvement that I am deeply uncomfortable with. (and when the toilets are broken, it's back to the tape and bag method) But even funnier (to me) was that when NASA was getting ready to send Sally Ride into space, someone (who was involved with readying supplies) asked her if 100 tampons was a good amount for her two week expedition. she said something along the lines of "of course not" or "no, 100 is not a good amount", so they sent her with 50.

Oh man, I would come here and camera geek out 😍 I think my favourite part was the display of the cameras chronologically made by Nikon. Then the astronomy section because I love the stars 💫 nice video my dude!

Cool museum. I am a terrible picture taker (my thumb shared the frame with Chinaman's Hat on Oahu and I didn't even realize it until the film was developed.) I found the area explaining how Nikon's glass is made interesting.

Kyoto central train station waiting for a Shinkansen 1997. A Norwegian female friend is sitting on the platform getting some sun eyes closed. Some dude runs up out of know where with a camera and giant telephoto lens and starts snapping. She freaks and ran like a rabbit. Whenever I see those big lenses, all I think of was that.

If I could check out the museum I would love to check out the astronomy section since I would love to be able to travel to Japan again to do some Astro Photography :D

Ah! I have never thought to look up if a Nikon museum even existed! I love the space stuff, but seeing all the glass would be really cool. My camera is a little Nikon Mirorless that I absolutely love, I would walk around looking at all the different lenses for hours~~ This will be on my must visit list for next time.

Hey Norm while we're on the topic of camera's what do you think of the sigma 18-35 as a vlogging lens? Thanks in advance and keep up the great work

Oh snap! This brings back so many memories of my mom’s Nikon camera. I can still feel the weight in my hand and smell the leather case. I knew I was grown up when she taught me how to put film in it. So, my favorite part was the memories you both brought back through your excitement for cameras.

Thought for a second this was the blooper video you talked about on the last twitch and was thinking that fast. Not disappointed with this though, great video!
