"You can't have counterfeit good in Canada" that's the first I ever heard of that. Have you never been to a flea-market? And as someone who has lived near pacific mall their whole life and frequented it often, it's hilarious people only know it as the fake dvd place from 20 years ago. It's much more than that. All the eyes being fixed on Pacific Mall brings less attention to the other asian malls in Scarborough, Markham and Richmond Hill that fly under the radar. Also the local governments of these areas refuse to regulate this because of their business interests and 'foreign influence' on MP's and the mayors office.

Used to frequent PM frequently back in the day when Blockbuster was still a thing years ago. It was known all across Toronto for the counterfeit movie boom, when it was a thing. Selling copies of DVD's that were released before we got them here in Canada. The Police caught onto it and raided the Mall and shut it down for quite some time. It's not what it used to be as a lot of the shops are now just Cellphones and clearly ' Made in China' dollar store junk. The upper more nostalgic part of the mall is nice to have a bite to eat and enjoy the real Chinese culture though.

There are 70+ cell phone case stores and it’s half empty and then the rest is food! I saw one place that had knockoffs and they wanted $600 for a small LV Speedy! Spent 3h in the place and it sucked bad!

Weird that you say “you can’t have counterfeit goods in Canada”. Obviously that’s true, but all the Chinese malls here have been selling counterfeits for years, even through eras when the police bothered to crack down on them (mostly the bootleg dvd period). Why anyone would go here looking for legit stuff is beyond me, but there ARE some vendors selling legitimate merchandise if you know what to look for (and it’s never name-brand hats, clothes, bags, etc). Pacific Mall is a great place to visit for people who don’t get back to Asia very often, or tourists who’ve never been there.

I agree with your statement 👌 these spots are a good show of what it’s like to be in Asian markets, hope they stay around!

Absolutely still open, and still the busiest Chinese mall in Canada. Weekdays it’s not very busy, evenings a little busier, and weekends are still nuts (I doubt this was shot on a weekend). There IS a lot of counterfeiting there, and has been for a good 20 years (less so in its early years in the 90’s). Most people in Toronto know the products here can be found much cheaper on Amazon Marketplace or shit knockoff-peddler sites like Temu, Alibaba, etc. (which are just China flooding the global markets with cheap garbage to balance the crippling deflation they’re stuck with at home). But the mall has many vendors selling legitimate products; you just have to know what to look for. And the food options are decent and fairly priced. There is a newer and MUCH bigger Chinese mall called King Square northwest of Pacific Mall (Woodbine and 16th) that took ten years to finally open, and it’s literally TWO-THIRDS EMPTY and pretty sad, even on weekends. They overestimated the need, especially among younger Asians who are more likely to shop at mainstream Canadian malls where everything is legitimate. Still, King Square is worth a visit, if only to see how it pales in comparison to Pacific Mall.
