All organisations face a threat from insiders - individuals who are trusted with access to an organisation’s assets. Mitigating insider risks can be different to dealing with external threats, as insiders are already in, trusted with access, security clearance and they look like everyone else
(full or part-time staff, contractors or suppliers). These days, most insider crimes involve IT. Practically everything involves IT. CPNI is running a large research programme to understand how insiders might use (or misuse) IT and to develop guidance to help organisations mitigate insider risks by better securing their networks, managing and monitoring their staff’s use of corporate systems.
