As for it negating chapter 2’s ending, I really enjoyed Rose’s explanation about how traumatized the kids were. They were gonna be messed up no matter what. It’s just finally they are solving the problem, not putting a band aid on it.

The Red Door made me appreciate The Last Key a lot more at least Keyface did something whereas The Red Faced Demon was the first villain and then was teased like Thanos multiple times and Insidious 5 should’ve been his huge Thanos moment and he was basically just another glorified cameo and that was really disappointing he was so overhyped and it was just cinema clickbait

Personally, I loved the movie. I think Patrick Wilson did a wonderful job directing and acting. The rest of the cast gave solid performances too. In terms of the story (and not to go into detail), the idea of a family torn apart due to secrets resonated with me so I could relate to the overall story. That being said, I can understand why others may dislike or not relate to the story. Characters suddenly falling asleep or new rules of The Further being introduced. I was willing to overlook some of these things because of the artistry, cinematography and jumpscares. It was a fun time for me.

That's exactly it. By the end of the film, you can really tell Patrick Wilson and Leigh Whannell were more interested in exploring the father/son relationships and the effects of trauma and abuse on a family unit. Yes the rules don't make sense, but I don't think that actually hurts the concept and theme at all. The movie is not about exploring the further as much as it is using the further metaphorically. The 3rd act is pretty abstract almost to Stephen King levels. And also *spoiler follows* I thought the one bit of dialogue that was made by the mom, explaining to Josh that even though he was possessed, from Dalton and his brother's perspective, it still just looked like it was Josh himself trying to attack them, this is a surprisingly clever point that most horror movies don't make. Usually, horror movie characters just accept that their loved one was possessed and brush it off when the possession ends. But that's not very realistic, emotionally wise. So it was a surprisingly deep observation that really made an effect on the emotional side of the movie.

@@bris7370 there were parts that I enjoyed & parts that I would have done differently for sure! I don’t think it’s a terrible film by any means, but what I do wish is that there was less reliance on jump scares & more atmosphere building. That was my biggest knack against it. BUT the characters themselves were cool to follow & when the jump scares happened, they were effective. There’s a lot of things Patrick Wilson can learn from for his next film & I’m excited for that (:

honestly there was so much more they could’ve explained, why was the red faced demon behind elise at the end of chapter 3, the red faced demon never had a story behind it. and the way the demon ended by using paint to close off the door was not the best way to stop a demon. i feel like was elise saw at the end of the chapter 2 was something else and who was the family that elise visited? and the demon that was guarding the red door in the first insidious with the black jacket there was no story about that neither.

I haven't seen the movie yet. But I already know what to expect: there will be bad things considering the director' s first try. the main actor was young so the ppl will find it hard to actually accept the older one. And the story will lack things because the writers and director.... changed. So my expectations are not on the level of the previous films. But I am ready to watch it and enjoy it. I know the next one is going to be better . The ending of insidious2 was not happy to me. Because I know erasing the memory is not the answer: I mean every one will lie to them , the family will break because of the lies and if you are not going to deal with the monsters , they will come back.

I take it as & see it that you can never escape who you are even if hypnotized Astro will always be apart of them, escaping that hurt them & keeping it secret made lies & things not make sense to them & question, so having to learn & made to reach deeper into yourself you find the one thing you weren’t suppose to cause you we’re hypnotized. It all makes sense to me but maybe I just saw it in every perspective & reason. Paranormal will never make sense cause there is no sense to it, the power behind the paranormal realm is something that will always seem like a complicated concept with the abilities & everything.

I find the entire premise of this movie baffling. The main bulk of the movie is just Patrick Wilson and his son gradually remembering what happened to them, playing it out like a mystery movie where the characters need to uncover their own backstory...but we the audience already know the answer. So over an hour of the movie is waiting for the characters to catch up to what we already know. They should've caught up with us in the first act, instead most of the movie feels like it's just spinning it's wheels. Shame because as you said, the direction and production design is solid, unfortunately it was all in service of a pointless story. Another Insidious movie with the Lambert family deserved to be and could've been much better. They also spent the entire movie hyping up the rematch with the Darth Maul demon for a really lame underwhelming final confrontation. The first movie's climax with Darth Maul was far better. Hope Wilson gets a future chance to direct with a much better script worthy of his talents.
