Hi, The old Khono/Sakurai were varnished with cashew oil which allowed these guitars to get old in a great condition. I have a n° 15 Khono Sakurai from 1981 and always though it was a cedar top because of its color but finally it might be a spruce top and this golden color is due to the type of varnish used. Anyway, these old Khono/Sakurai are as good as actual guitars in sound and projection.

I just bought an Anranjuez number 5 Takamine stamped Kohno from 1975 earlier this week. It looks and sounds almost identical to the last one. Not bad for a parking lot deal for my first guitar to learn on. I fell in love with the sound and have been sitting every evening since just caressing the strings to hear them sing.

Those interviews with a luthier at every meeting, it is just such a great idea and you actually do interviews nicely, and so do Jonathan. Keep that format, please! Walter Verreydt: Obviously I have been lacking something in my culture, because I did not knew that man. His guitars are almost a perfect example of the Italian school of modern classical guitar making, even though he is from Belgium, which I of course absolutely just love, because it is centered around making great working instruments always! Very classical tone and also looks and materials used, even though it is a lattice braced guitar. It may not be that inventive in the actual design though. One little critique, which also could go for many of my absolute favorite Italian luthiers, even Tacchi. But, who can complain, when the sound is that perfect, and on top even a new guitar not played in at all sounding like that and already promising good projection and sustain in a brand new guitar, which is not a double top. It must be the favorite of the Puritans! Stefanos Poligenis: That guitar is simply a work of art! I have never told this, almost even forgotten that myself, to be true, but I used to be a visual artist and I were experimenting much with paintings in all sorts of organic shapes, reminding me of the backside of that beautiful guitar. If I were a luthier, this is, how I would build guitars. Still, looks matter little, if I does not work well as an instrument, but this guitar sounds spectacular, even better than the Belgium luthier made one and with more presence in the bass. Again, it really highlights, that the cedar versus spruce top perceived tone really means little, because a spruce top guitar sure can be voiced to sound much like a cedar top and vice versa. Masaki Sakurai: How on Earth can that guitar be so cheap? Actually a guitar, which has been sold and clearly were underpriced! I mean, Kohno/ Sakurai is the school of guitar making coming from Japan, and mind you, Japan got a huge tradition for all the classical musical arts, also guitar making and performance and even including the biggest school for flamenco in the world located in Japan! If I had seen that price for that guitar, even though I am not a guitarist, I would have bought it! It is a historical guitar from one of the best current day luthiers, and to me the sound is just perfect! Forget all I said about the last two guitars: When a guitar sounds this perfect, it could be painted pink for all I care, it still is my pick of the day!

The third, by virtue of both construction & age has a very good voice, basically how this type of instrument should sound like! Having said that, the first, I hear a lot of potential to possibly go beyond the third once it's played for a long time. Obviously the type of strings & tuning make a huge difference & I would experiment with both over the said long time, to find the "nice voice" as the gentleman constructor said.

The early Sakurai’s are a great value. I was lucky to land a 1976 No. 5 last year from Elderly Instruments in Lansing Michigan. It’s also in amazing condition like the one in the video, and it cost me about 1/10 of the price of a new Sakurai (it was $1100 U.S.). Those early Sakurai’s (the No. 5, 7, 10, 15, and 30) are all 660 scale, by the way. Layered rosewood was typically used on the models 5 and 7 I believe, and the other models are solid sides and back. Aranjuez and Takamjne make early models with the same Kohno-shop cedar top that cost even less these days than the Sakurai No. 5 models. Also great values. Thanks Siccas for another fine review video!

another interesting point is that do not buy a guitar you have not actually played yourself. Do not go by any other persons view when buying a guitar PLAY IT Yourself ...!!!!!!! Take 2-3 days off a small holiday Go to a vendor who has 100's of guitars that you are interested in. Spend 2 days try out all the guitars Sleep on it, the 3rd day go and buy it.

100% Stefanos Poligenis - 2019 Lattice this one for me love that warmth sound on a spruce top so many tones/color pictures you can paint with this one. Are all the guitars the same size of the body ? for me the Walter Verreydt was nice but more treble sound than the one of Stefanos.

Dear Hai, Thanks for your comment. The Weekly Guitar Meeting format isn't about playing new and different pieces. The best way to compare the guitars is to play the same pieces on different guitars. So it's easier for the audience to notice the difference between the new and the earlier videos.

Video of Siccas are for me not trustable anymore, since most of the guitars that they reviewed are „great“, sound „heavenly“ or can „make them cry“ ect. If they can become emotional that fast/easily, it is really difficult to evaluate a guitar objectively. Or it is just another way of marketing. Anyway, relying on guitar reviews made by dealer is like to ask a car dealer whether the car that he sells is good or not.

@@1corinthians15.1-4kjv well, if i would have to deal with such high-end guitars everyday, i'm afraid that i will get used to such high standard very quickly. And "heavenly", "makes me cry" won't be that easy for me anymore... And the next question is: what is the background of the ones who reviewed those guitars? Are they really experts in this area?
