I'm pleased to announce SUCCESS! I'll give locslikes most of the credit here - many thanks for a fine instructional video. Many first time experiences for me: first root ssh (have ssh'ed with users many times), first chown, first tar unzip, first mkdir and ls Unix command use, and most importantly first application I have added to my Nas4Free server. Now I need to figure out how to use the cloud as an everyday tool. My wife has already installed the iphone client. This has great potential!

This is great! I tweaked a little using https both times and have already used DNS and port forwarding in router to get remote access to OC and N4F GUI. Now, barring power failures, it's good to go!

Spent ages trying to find out why I got a '413 - Request Error'! I blindly followed your instructions, but just realised that the tmp folder is not in the same path we specified in the Web Server section. Pointing that to the folder we created (owncloud/tmp) did the job :-)
@locslikes
9 жыл бұрын
+Mehfoos Yacoob yeah the reason i changed the tmp location is because using embedded it puts the tmp location on the usb stick and when we upload lots of files it runs out of space. so moving it to the owncloud/tmp location fixed that issue. anyway great to hear you got it working :-)

locslikes hey, I'm not complaining by any means. Until the day of setting up the system, I had no idea what NAS is, but thanks to you and similar resources, I've basically got a mirrored system as my 'own' personal cloud, built from hardware I was about to dispose. Thank you :-)

Mehfoos Yacoob :-) all good i was just trying to explain it. if you upgrade owncloud you'll just have to remember to re-create the tmp folder as well. I'm currently working on a backup program that will work well with a nas :-)

+Mehfoos Yacoob I was pulling what little hair I have left out trying to figure this out. I never thought the answer was going to be right here as the first comment. That being said, the tutorial helped out tremendously and thanks to this I am starting to understand what is going on in the world of Nas4Free. After I get my setup online and working, I will be adding Plex to round out the project. Thanks for the great videos.

Could you post a tutorial on how to map a network drive in windows 7 to the files on the owncloud web server? This would help me tremendously!! Thanks again for all your hard work.

Hi, I've got version 9.0.0.1 (revision 175). There seems to be a difference in the webserver service. When I follow your tutorial, and try to access OwnCloud for the first time, it tells gives me an error 404. Could it be that php is not included in this version of nas4free?

Locs, I am a little confused at where I went wrong. I am following your tutorial to instal owncloud 7 and when I ssh in with putty, I ls -l in /mnt/Pool1/www/ and all i see is my .bz2 file. On your video I can see a .websvr htpasswd file in your folder. Where did it come from?
@locslikes
10 жыл бұрын
Jon B the .websvr is created when you activate the webservice on nas4free. but you won't be able to access owncloud if the webservice is not active.
@jonb7324

locslikes I went ahead with teh rest of your tutorial and stood up owncloud. Still when I look in my /mnt/Pool1/www/ folder, i see no .websvr htpasswd. Its very strange, do I need to erase everything and start over again? Not sure how critical that file is but its missing and I am able to log into owncloud.

I have no idea what is wrong. I've followed the installation instructions from video 1 three times now. Once I get to the putty ssh setup, everything goes to ****. First, it does not see the pool1 nor ssh files in the /mnt/ directory. Nothing. I restarted the nas4free server, and in each case all the settings and disk management setup got wiped. It was as though I didn't do any of the setup steps.

the way i did it was, using nas4free in the general menu enable https, then copy the text (both text boxes) into notepad (watch out for spaces). Save. Then go into webserver service, enable https there, and copy paste the test from notepad into the relevant text boxes there. Save. The go enable force https in owncloud admin.

Cant assess the /owncloud/data folder through SMB, any ideas (Could i chown or something?)
@locslikes
8 жыл бұрын
+Joseph Clarke no do not chown it. if you do owncloud won't work properly as the data location has to be given access to www:www user and group. why do you want to access this location via smb anyway?
@josephclarke8257
8 жыл бұрын
Because I find smb less clunky then the Web interface and the owncloud app requires me to still have the data on the drive inside my main pc which uses space :/. I just like smb I guess. Its why I chose nas4free rather than ubuntu server
@locslikes
8 жыл бұрын
Jospeh Clarke the data folder is set to user www and group www so you can try and create a user with those credentials and it should let you access that path.

It was running a little clunky wit smb and the web server running simultaneously on 2gb of ram so i disabled smb and i have ram to spare now. I just installed a HDD to store the owncloud folder it's good to have a backup anyway i guess. Thanks XD

@locslikes

Marcus Rose am i correct in thinking that you want to see the files you added into your nas inside of owncloud? if so it's not recommend as there are too many permission issues not to mention the owncloud database issue. you really should treat owncloud and nas4free separately when it comes to data.

locslikes yes that is correct, so what would be the best way to stream my movies etc over wan from nas4free?

Marcus Rose Nas4Free is not designed to do that so it's unlikely you'll be able to. What's your objective? is it just to stream and share videos? i'm asking because there may be other options.

+Jim Zuñiga that error usually means that the php.ini limits have either not been set or it doesn't have access to the file. please start there. also if you want to use owncloud with nas4free i would suggest using a jail. you can see how to do that with my other video here ->www.locslikes.com/nas4free/jail-install-and-configure-jail-on-nas4free/
