i bought 2 micro starts for both my rv roof top units,, i was hoping my smaller unit, either a 11,500 btu or a 12,500 btu dometic, would start and run with a single honda eu2000i. i believe i was told it would but anyway,,, it will not. i think it worked in like march but once any warmer weather rolls in,,, it totally doesn't work. sigh. 2 micr-air easy starts at $200+ each wish i could use them on a 6k btu window unit,, don't see why not.

Interesting about the generator. Depending on which version of the eu2000i, it is rated for 1800 watts. Surely your AC is less than that. I would call Micro Air and see if they have any ideas. Pretty smart guys over there that seem to understand generators and AC units as well as their product. I don't see what it will not work on the window unit either, but I am no electrical engineer.

@@ChickerysTravels i was not expecting it to work on the bigger unit, 15k btu, i just put one on that one to make it easier on the compressor (sadly, that backfired as well, since i put the thermastat on as high as it would go, like 90 or something, and tried to keep the trailer vaguely cool over one summer, but i think it burned up the compressor,, hooked to shore power 50 amp service too. that unit doesn't work any more. and the smaller unit does draw only like 10-11 ish amps while running which should be fine and even when i tested the start amps it seemed around not to bad so i thought it would be good but it is the starting in warmer weather that kicks the honda eu2000i off,, even with the soft start, it pulls too many amps. i think i did call them,, it has been a couple years ago,, there wasn't much help as since the micro start was hooked up right,, what else can they do? maybe i got a bad micro start? probably not likely but maybe,,,, but it's not like they are going to send me another one.

@@kevinlowe7552 That is a bummer of a story. We have a 13.5 AC unit on ours and it will run off the batteries through our 3000 watt inverter without any easy start on the AC. It seems logical to me that yours would run on the generator after the AC ramps up with the easy start on it.
@kevinlowe7552

@@ChickerysTravels i would have thought the same thing, was kind of counting on it really. and it did work in february march-ish when i first installed but when it got warmer, the compressor drew more amps apparently. you may have a much more modern set up with your inverter/batteries and your ac may be more efficient if it is newer, my stuff is 2007 ish vintage and not using the batteries,, only the eu2000i

You had a good experience....the only suggestion I have is for the benefit of those who have no idea what you are verbally describing. Could you make another video that actually shows the wires you are verbally describing, where they are and where you are following them from...to. Systems may be different, but the exercise of watching what you do, rather than watching you strip wires....would be much more instructional.

Nice video! As soon as you pulled the box off the unit and I saw all those wires I was thinking this was going to be a really complex job! Glad you only needed to find the one and splice them together! I think you're suggestions on how to use this product are spot on!

While this is a good intro to the device, the instructions are not clear and rather hurried for such an important job. There are some other you tube videos which go step-by-step slowly so any one can follow along. Those videos are about 25 minutes long but with them, there is really no chance to mess it up. I think this gentlemen assumes too much for the average installer but thanks for bringing up another voice to support this device. I hope to install one soon too.

The purpose definitely wasn’t to replace the manufacturer’s instructions, but merely to illustrate how easy it was to follow them. We think you’ll be happy with the product should you choose to get it.

Understand one thing though people, you would need twice the battery bank that he has and you would need enough solar on the roof to be able to run the air conditioner which is about 14 amps continuous. To keep it running you would need a large solar array and a huge battery bank to run your air conditioner for any amount of time. Even with lithium batteries it's not economically feasible to run a standard RV air conditioner off solar and batteries

A 2000W generator would work fine for air conditioning use longer term, but we've run it off the batteries we show in our video for short periods to cool things off.

Be careful around those capacitors!! You should discharge them by shorting them. You DO NOT want to get hit with the volts one of those things can shock you with.

We have no data at Micro-Air on that. We expect that it will extend compressor life thanks to the gentle ramping of the start and the elimination of the SLAM on of air conditioners. In countries and private developments where part of the electric charges includes the highest amperage used, we expect our EasyStart to save on monthly charges incurred. Anyone know if I could install this in a window unit a/c? I have a home built truck camper that uses a standard Walmart window unit and a Honda 2000 generator. The generator will run the a/c with the eco throttle off, but won't allow the compressor to start with the eco throttle on. I'm hoping this soft start will be my ticket to gas savings!
