The way Jeff mounted it the rear camera cable is going across the side airbag curtain at the top of the A pillar. I tried routing the cable behind it, but didn't want to wrangle the airbag. So I routed the cable further down the A pillar, crossed where the airbag ends and routed the cable back up and then to the center.

Does wiring in dashcams drain the battery in any significant way, and are there ways to prevent or reduce it?
@Rroll100

Stuart, I noticed that the rear camera mounting tape is right on top of the heating element! Thinkware U1000 instructions say "The adhesive part of the rear camera should not touch the defrost grid" If you mount it on the bottom of the lower window, the grid is not far from the bottom of the lower window. Is that a not a problem, mounting the rear-cam on top of the grid for the heat and for later removal? If you move the rear-cam up 1"+, between the lowest grid and the 2nd lowest grid, it is in the field of vision. Why not put it to the top of the lower window under the spoiler? OR; In the middle, as far over to the edge of the lower back window on the driver's side? Also for the front dashcam, on one side of the mirror is the huge FCA sensor(Front view camera). On the other side is another sensor for the Auto Defogging System . The 'Auto defogging system' reduces the possibility of fogging up the inside of the windshield by automatically 'sensing the moisture inside the windshield'. The auto defogging system operates when the heater or air conditioning is on. The U1000 is a vertical camera 4 1/2" (11 1/2cm) x 2 1/2" (6 1/2cm). The ideal position would appear to be mostly on top of all of the black windshield dots, below and against the moisture sensor and touching the side of FCA cover. This would leave the lens about 3/4" below the black dots. Is there a problem being so close to this sensor? The sensor case is full of vents side, bottom and front. Thanks It is on a Canadian Hyundai Ioniq Electric 2020-38 Ultimate.

Finally did the install. The UE kit didn’t come with a hardwire cable, but only the 12V cigarette lighter cable. Nevermind, I have cut the 12V connector, exposed the wires and managed to connect it to the fusebox as you did (only with one cable : the yellow for the "ignition on only" wire, the sole one in the cable connector, besides the grounding cable). I also only bought the front camera, so the installation was much less work. Anyway, I could not thank you and Jeff enough for this video. You guys have been very helpful to me. Thank you.

That sticky tape reversed trick is great, i will try it myself. Hyundai don't put any foam or fibre behind the plastic panels where some would help noise reduction. Almost all cars (RR excepted?) can do with some noise reduction.

I had BestBuy install a Thinkware camera in my 2019 Ioniq EV. Does your camera shutdown after the car is turned off? Mine keeps recording 24/7 which I don't think it's suppose to do.

I discovered this the hard way; the interior lamp fuse doesn't seem to be a true constant power source. This might only be for the US version, or just on the Hybrid, but I found that it turns off once the car is locked and the lights go off. For my constant power (yellow wire), I went with the spare battery fuse, labeled "Spare (B+)", and ignition power (red wire) on spare ignition, "Spare (IG2)".

The installer had to come out and change the fuse for parking mode because he originally chose the wrong one. Maybe it was the interior lamp.

At 5:42 those fuses are R1C4 "interior lamp" and R4C8 "spare" my spare is always on @12v, but so the interior lamp should go off after the ignition goes off.

Well the interior lamp stays on, so I went with R1C7 "ING1" on Ioniq plug in and that shuts off promptly, and goes on with the engine on and back off on ACC mode. Always a low

Thank you Stuart for the excellent video of Geoff installing your Dash Cam. I have tracked down Geoff's number so I am hopeful I can arrange for him to install mine. I have a NextBase 512GW with a hardwire kit. Trouble is the kit doesn't have the micro2 fuses or fuse taps and Halfords can't supply them either. Hyundai weren't much help and refused to give advice on third party installations or unauthorised Hyundai parts or accessories which may compromise the warranty. In no way was my intention to do either, and in the end they didn't offer a solution. Thankfully your video does and the Hyundai garage said he is authorised for all electric installations. Thanks again. I did feel for you when you had such a long wait for your Premium SE. I ordered my Premium EV in early June and it arrived over two months early in mid July. Glad it all worked out for you.

Thanks Peter. His name is Jeff, by the way. Did you phone Motorfair to get his number? Jeff actually arrived with standard Mini blades which don't fit, so I had to order the Micro2 blades from Amazon so Jeff could return a couple of days later to complete the installation. Since doing our car, he's done another Ioniq, so he knows what to expect now :)

Hello back. If a device has a GPS receiver in it (like, for example, smartphones and higher end dashcams do), then it can determine its location (latitude, longitude, altitude) down to a few metres. It's then a case of using mathematics to determine the speed from the difference in location over time.

Yes, no issues so far. It just sits in the car and does its job. It's frustrating that you can't increase the length of clips from one minute. It meant I had to stitch 300 of them together for my 230 mile timelapse video, which was a pain. But the quality is fine. Being able to see the view via WiFi as you decide on the final position of the dashcam is a big advantage.

Yes, it's fine. The only thing I don't like is that the video clips are 1 minute long and that can't be changed. I'd choose 5 minute clips if I could. You can judge the video quality yourself here.

I maintain that it's still the best position. If it's positioned further up, it is more towards the middle of your view. Also, the upper portion of rear window is at such a shallow angle that it would be difficult to moun the rear camera. But it's your choice.
