Hi Rob , I removed one from a mp telecaster, the white wire is the coil split, it’s a weird pickup wired in parallel instead of series like most normal humbuckers, I took it out cos sounded so weak and added a fender atomic instead 🤟🏻😎

I have had pickups in the past that have that same wiring set configuration where the bare wire is ground, the green connects to white for coil-splitting and the red is hot. To split the green and white are grounded by a switch. Not sure if that is the case with that pickup, but it may be. I know different manufacturers use the same colors in different places so there is no definite answer.
@theguitarmanifesto
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that could be what was throwing me with the green wire, that'll be my next test but want clarification first. Thanks bud 💯💪 but on another note the way I have the green connected to bare you would have thought I would have a load of noise ? Strange one, plus the green and bare were connected when I got it but the previous person may have not wired it correctly either 🤣
@ccjmusic
2 жыл бұрын
@@theguitarmanifesto There are so many variations in the wires and wiring methods that it is hard to know what the intended way of wiring, from the manufacturer, is if you don't have a diagram from them. Can you tell if both coils are active by tapping the slugs? If the wiring is the same as the one I had, in theory you have it permanently split, so you would only get a signal from one coil.

No black wire on the bucker? Since it's a Chinese pickup, black (or bare?) is ground, green is hot and white and red are for coil splitting. At least that's my experience with China made pickups. Hope it helps!
@theguitarmanifesto

No black at all that threw me, the bare and green were soldered together when I got it so rolled with it.it could have been wrong all along 🤣 I'll have a tinker swapping about the wires

@@theguitarmanifesto I was curious and found some old reverb ads selling this pickup. It seems to be missing the black wire there as well. It was probably part of the mp tele with 3 pickups, and the middle one is rwrp, so makes sense the neck + bridge are out of phase in this config. Reversing the p90 wiring should help also 🤔

Might I suggest a sticker of the sun on it somewhere on the body, because that guitar is bright lol.. (I love dad jokes lol) It does seem to have its own sound for sure, I don't know enough about pickups to tell you anything for sure, but if I were to guess I would say the bridge pickup splits or taps and that is why you have a extra wire. I do like the P90 though, it sounds pretty cool without a tone pot to make it darker, it seems to sing in a way I have never heard a p90 ring.. Though that could be the settings of what ever method you use to record, I have no idea.. I am just not very knowledgeable on certain topics, and pickup wiring and amps are just a couple of them lol.... Keep up the good work Meat, I look forward to seeing what all you do to this guitar, I am sure there are tons of experiments you can do with it...

Thanks bro 🤘🎸 yeah the Humbucker is all set for split coiling etc. What I need to find it is the wiring for this specific Humbucker, it's different to your conventional say Seymour Duncan which has 5 wires
@lfaf9509
2 жыл бұрын
@@theguitarmanifesto Five wires vs four wires... I bet the difference is tapping vs splitting. I bet this humbucker is tapped instead of split. The Seymour Duncan would be basically two single coils that become a humbucker if you connect two sets of wires. The tapped humbucker would not need to connect two different sets of wires to become a humbucker, instead you could just connect the wire that comes off the second coil to where ever they connect.. I don't know if that makes any sense, but it does at least in my head lol.
@theguitarmanifesto
2 жыл бұрын
Yes as I said in the video I've tried both wires separately but still get that same sound. Again I need a wiring diagram for this particular pickup 🎸🤘
@lfaf9509
2 жыл бұрын
@@theguitarmanifesto crap, I think I have over thought this a bit.. because now I think I know why you would be getting a strange out of phase issue.. If you had a tapped humbucker, and you connected both the tap wire and the wire that comes from the end of the second coil in the pair of coils, you could get a out of phase sound. I don't recall seeing how you wired them before, but I bet the issue comes down to connecting the tap wire to the same spot as you connected the wire that comes from the end of the second coil in the humbucker.. Now you watch, now that I have considered this stuff, I will have something backwards and I will be completely wrong lol.
@lfaf9509

@@theguitarmanifesto As soon as I read your response, I realized how off I must be.. Though I still think the humbucker you have is tapped instead of split... I will think more on it. I will also see what I find myself, suddenly I am curious as to how to connect they type of humbucker lol

@@theguitarmanifesto that would be very strange, if it were designed to be parallel it wouldn't actually be a proper humbucker, I'll do some more research but it seems most likely to me that they have a very confusing color code and most people are confused by it.
