I bought this pickup kit from ebay seller Rebelpickups. They are not currently selling on Ebay but are still selling the pickups. I believe this is their listing on the Dutch site marktplaats: www.marktplaats.nl/v/muziek-en-instrumenten/snaarinstrumenten-harpen/m1986402347-super-pickup-voor-harp-lees-de-reviews-rebelpickups The amp I'm using was recommend to me when I bought my Firefly II electric harp (www.harptuesday.com/ep-111-exploring-electric-harps-part-1/) and is a Roland Cube Street Ex.

That looks much more manageable than the Dusty Strings one I got the directions for which told me to turn my pedal harp onto its head. That plus the fact that the wire clamps didn't seem to fit well in a semigrand soundbox left me really annoyed with their whole setup. I ended up getting a Fishman single-lead pickup designed for pianos and harps, and I've been very happy with that. BTW, if you ever want to do a video about using a looper, I'd be glued to the screen.

Ahh, interesting! I think potentially laying the harp on it's side might be an option as well? But yeah, the install on this was reasonably painless. I did do a quick look at looper pedals in this episode, but I'm definitely not an expert! www.harptuesday.com/ep112/

When running it through the amp without any added reverb etc, just to make it louder, how true to the acoustic sound is it?

Pretty close, I think? I will do a bunch of tests and sound comparisons in next week's episode. (And the particular amp one is using will definitely have an effect on the sound).

Nice that the pick-up has multiple points at which to pick up the various ranges if the harp! I just have one, mid-way down the inside of my soundboard. Thanks for the video Josh

That sounds so good! It almost has a bit of a lute like quality to the sound amplified. I really dig it.

What other pickups can you use?

I believe there are two main classes of pickups - piezo pickups that pickup the vibration of the soundboard, etc. and magnetic pickups, used by most electric guitars for example, that have a magnetic field around each string and measure/use that. As for as I know piezo style pickups are the only option that can be added to an acoustic harp. Any type of piezo pickups should presumably work, having 4 pickups spread along the soundboard seems good. Dusty Strings offers a similar setup: manufacturing.dustystrings.com/products/dusty-harp-pickup

I installed a pick up on my Aberdeen Meadows harp a few years ago. It does give good volume, but even with my Cube amp turned off, I get some buzz around middle F. Anybody else have this problem? The connections do seem to still be firm. I noticed the buzzing from the beginning.

Great video! Im looking into getting a pickup for my concert pedal harp. Do you think this one would be long enough to pick up all ranges of a full size harp?
